She is a 00w oi wonderful type and quality, carrying a beauti- ful udder and is a daughter of Edgefey Silver Dollar, the outstand- ing Jersey sire in the Marltimes at present. Yarmouth, who brought Edgeley Silver Dollar to the Mari- tilnes several years ago and used him with oirstanding rwults for several years.

SOCIAL GATHERING-Fibs reg- ular weekly social of the C. W. L. Collegiate Club was held on Satur- day night in the Knights of Colum- bus Hall. The social was opened with the singing of o Canada, fol- lowed by games and sing song. One of the special features of the even- ing was a step-dance by Miss Olive Peters, accompanied by Mr. Stan Gauthier. Music was furnished by Miss Mary Callaghan and Miss Lucy Campbell. A delicious lunch was served by the young ladies. A vote of thanks was tendered to Grand Knight, St. Clair ‘Trainer by the president of the club, Mr. Eric Rob- in. In order to finance and pay this large amount it was necessary to ar- range for an overdraft at the Bank of Nova Scotla, and at the close of the year 1931 this overdraft amounted to $21,483.09. The taxpayer will | ask, and rightly so, how we propose to take care of this overdraft.

First, I may say that in October of 1930 the Town borrowed from the Trustees of the PrinceCounty Hospital $10,000.00. During the sum- mer of 1931 the Trustees asked for the payment of this loan, and the Town gave them a cheque for this large amount, plus the interest. This loan was shown in last year! financial statement, but was paid out oi.’ the 193i Town Revenue, thus increasing the overdraft to the amount of $10,- 440.41.

In addition to the above explanation regarding the overdraft, we have the following collectable amounts!-

Total $19,075.00 You will notice by the above statement that with the amounts due. the bank overdraft is pretty well taken care of, as well as the HosPlifll loan being paid in full. During the past few years expenditures by municipalities all over Canada have been excessive, and in many cases very little to show in the way of permanent inlprovemcnts. This, however, is not the Case With Summcrside. we have ample evidence of Mrmunent improvements, and I am confident thlre is not five percent of the citizens of Bummerslde who will be willing to go back to the old methods. We must have con- fidence in our Town as well as our ability to solve our many problems as they present themselves, and co-operatlon among the cltlmnsu with world depression as it is being felt even here our borrowing must stop at least for the present because there is no urgent need for it. There never was a time when it was as easy to carry on the affairs of the Town as it will be for the year 1932. Our ratepayers are taxed perhaps the lowest of any Town, ilavlng all modern improvements, of its size in Canada. There is absolutely n0 necd to increase the taxes, and still the excellent service given our citizens can be continued. Today with Water Street, Central Street, Summer Street and Green Street paved, the‘ cost of main- taining streets with our new tractor and pavcr will be more than cut in two. With this saving and some others there is no reason why consider- able pnvlilg could not be done this year and paid from ordinary revenue without in any way increasing the debt. This would not only iielp out during the unemployment period. but we would be unending our money for something permanent. The healthy condition of the Water and Sew-
