Lecrure at Montacvug.—A highly instruc - tive, interesting and eloquent lecture on ‘The Book and its Story,” was delivered by the Rev. C. W. Hamilton to an appreciative audienéé in the Methodist Church at Mon- tague Bridge on Friday last. The proceeds of the lecture were in aid of the Building Fund of the proposed new church.

THe Goto Yisep,—The official returns from twelve gold mines in Nova Scotis for the month of October last, show that 2,3364 tons of ore was crushed, yielding 1,637 onnces ot old at an estimated valve of $32,000. The highest yield was 113} ounces of gold from 27 tons of quartz, and the lowest 8 from 72 tons. One mine in Oldham district yielded 552 ounces of gold valued at 311,000.

M, W..Wright, of Bedeque, are importing from Scotland a thoroughbred Clydesdale stallion, and says : ‘*We were last week shown two very fine suimals (a horse and mare) purchased in Scot- land and brought out by Mr. Maurice Wright, of Bedeque. The horse is 24 years old, and weighs over 1300 lbs. ; the mare is 34, and weighs considerably over 1600 lbs. They are intended tor breeding purvoses, and are highly spoken of by good judges,”

After a personal explanation to the .court Chief Justice Dorion fined Sheppard $10, with $155 costs for contempt in connection with bench warrant. She pard paid the fine and costs and subsequently wrote to the officers of the 65th apologizing for the article published in the News. The officers have agreed to sto all proceedings against him, proyided he wi pay the costs incurred thus far, which amount
