_ Meerine or ree Inisu Conreperation.—A meet- ing of the new Irish Confederation was held in Dublin en the 15th instant, Mr. Meagher in the chair. The usual speeches were delivered ; and at the close of the proceedings a vast crowd collected, formed of the “old freland” party, which gave vent in loud cheers for O’- Connell and old Ireland, mingled with groans and other expressions of disapprobation for “ Young Ireland and the Confederates.” The excitement on the appearance of ®’Gormans and their associates was truly alarming. The elder O'Gorman was struck with a stick; but the police being in great force, the disposition to riot was quelled, and the mob dispersed.

A Worp to Emieranrs.-—There is: no end to the demand for labor in the United States, if those wishing employment will go back of our cities. Thousands of men are at this moment wanted on the different rail- ways and canals, and a vastly larger number are re- quired by our farmers and other employers all over the country. Wages on the railroads and canals are sel- dom less than $1 per day, and oftener from $1 25to #1 50.—By the month, on farms, from $8 to $146 is given, according to the season and labour, board and and washing being included, which forms a large item inthe day laborer’s expense. Day laborers, on the ave- rage, receive ftom 75 cents tocne dollar. Emigrants arriving in this country, having good trades, stand a double chance of succeeding; though the commonest) hand laborer can earn by industry a comfortable living, | and, in time, competence. Stone cutters, bricklayers,, plaisterers, shoe makers, tailors, or men of any other! useful trade, will find ready market in this country for| their toil. The facilities for reaching any portion of the States, from the seaboard, are easy, and the expense of

travel comparatively trifling. $5 will carry a man from| this city to the great lakes ; ten dollars to the Mississippi, |

and in such proportion the whole country can be travers- ed. The chances are equally fair from the northern to

The usual custom in advertisements of this | kind, is to designate all lands under tilluge, as being in a high jstate of cultivation: in the presentinstance, the growing crops, (consisiing of about 15 acres of wheat, oats and barley, 3 of po- |tatoes and 9 of hay, very little inferior to the craps around jCharlottetown. 6 acresof fallows preparing for wheat next year, { acres of grass depastured two years. 10 acres have veen reclaimed from a wilderness state within the lost four years, and 40 acres more can be, at the trifling expense of about eight shillings peracre. The house and buildings are not new, but they are warm and convenient. There is also large and productive garden, secured by adyke, and a ‘paddock of 2 acres of permanent pasture, similarly fenced, with a neve: failing stream of water running throughout. About 500 longers will complete the enclosure of the whole farm. A diary can be produced, showing the management of every acre of the cultivated land for the last four years; therefore, even a stran- ger to the soil of the Island, will be enabled to judge of what should and what should not be done hereafter. ‘This property embraces many rare advantages, with only one materia! disad- vantage, e. i., the rent is two shillings per acre; yet itis now cheaper than many farms, even were they free from rent alto- gether.
