Vendred: de la semaine dernière, le gouverneur Howlan, accompagné du sergent Howlan, McGillevary, son ne- neu, à visité Tignish. Quoique la pluie tombat avec torrent a son arrivée, une foule considérable s'était réunie a Ja gare pour le recevoir. Le soir un nom- bre des ses amis le rencontrèrent chez le Dr Murphy et lui présentèrent l’ad- resse que nous publions ci-dessous, a laquelle Son Honneur répondit en termes bien pensés.

To His Honor the Honorable George William Howlan, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island.

May it please your Honor :

The undersigned, on behalf of the inhabitants of Tignish and vicinity, a district dear to you by years of confi- dence freely bestowed, beg to wel- come you here a second time during your incumbency of the highest psi- tion in our Province.

The office of Lieutenant Governor must necessarily fall vacant ; but seldom in the lifetime of even an oc- togenarian and the fact that our gra- cious sovereign’s mandate has been confided to you in the capacity is an ample tribute to our foresight, and that of our fathers, who picked you out when a small boy to represent this division in our old colonial Legis- lature during a history making epoch —an epoch replete with many benefits to us—which saw under your guiding of great local publie works, notable a- mong them being the Branch railway the North Cape light-house, and the breakwater at Tignish. A further gra- tification to us is the fact that your occupancy of the Gebernatorial chair has been of great material benefit. to the province, as you were no sooner installed than you at once put your- self in touch in the agricultural inter- ests, always for us the most impor- tant, and to-day every body of ad- vanced agriculturists are ready to rise and bless you. Need we assnre you that we but echo the universal verdict when we tell you that the name of Howlan will be remembered and held up as that of an idieal Gov- ernor long after you: subscribers will have passed to their eternal reward.

This address would be of too great a length were we to recite even a few of the many national achievements of which you formed so large a part. We would only express, then, in conclu- sion, our regrets that your amiable lady, for whom we all entertain the highest regard, could not have seen fit to accompany you today, whilst we beg that you will convey to her our best wishes for her health and happi- ness.

As the Pioneer harbor maker of this place, we would ask you, if time should permit, to visit the site of ou: new public work, for which you Jaid theSfoundation, and note the progress time has wrought. We now formally bid you welcome and wish you a pleasant stay in our midst. l

Sur l’IMPARTIAL, de la semaine dernière, en don- nant à vos lecteurs quelques uouvelles des 1les de la Made- leine vous disiez que la pêche est satisfaisante cette année. pour les insulaires. C'est vrai Elle a été même très bonne à certains points des Iles ; à l’1le Bryon, on a pris quantité de ce poisson bleu que cherchent tant es yaukees. À Amherst et au Bassins, les pêcheurs se disent aussi très contents du résultat de Jeur pêche : on dit la même chose de l’Etang du Nord. Res- tent le Havre aux Maisons et la Grande Entrée, où l'on a été moins chauceux ; mais comme plusieurs pêcheurs ae ces der- nières places se trouvaient mé- lés à ceux des autres ports, où il y à en abondance, on peut creire que tous pourront affronter les rigueurs de l'hiver sans crain- la misère. Tant mieux, penserez- vous ; Car s'il fallait compter sur la générosité du gouverne- ment, comme quelques familles s'y trouvaient réduites, acciden- tellement, l'automne dernier, il serait à craindre que les quel- ques barils de fleur qu'on leur jeterait avec grand bruit, se mettraient encore dans la tête de devenir blé-d’inde, et blé- d'inde ils deviendraient avant d'arriver aux iles. Et ce sont ces grandes faveurs gouverne- mentales si pronées par des journaux de Montréal, que de. vaient obtenir les habitants des 1les par leurs demandes impor- tunes, quand ils auraient pour eux seuls nn représentant, à Québec. Grand succès, n'est-ce pas ! mais jusqu'ici, que pour la gent qui s’engraisse de g'auds. Pardon ! c’est peut-être que le trône de leur dépnté est encore vacillant et passe d’un tribunal à l'autre sous le coup d'une coutestation. Laïissons-le s'afler- mir, ou qu'un autre l’occupe avec plus de justice, et l'on ver- ra des merveilles. Heureux yeux ! qui, alors, seront ouverts.

Nous n’envicns poiut cet avantage à la population de Coleman et des environs : mais vu que Joleman est seulement 2 ou 3 milles d'OLeary, il nuus semble qu'il serait bien plus conforme à la justice d'avoir une station à St. Louis qui est près de 6 milles soit de Tignish ou d’Alberton. Qu'en pense notre député à Ottawa ? Est-ce grâce à son influence auprès de M. Bla'r que la population de Coleman va jonir des avantages d'une station de chemin de fer? Pourquoi ne s’occupe-tii pas des intérêts de ses commettants qui sont ses voisins ? Allons ! Monsieur McLellan ! Charity begins at home.

M Aubin Arsenauit, fils de feu sénateur Arsenault, doit s'embarquer cette semaine sur an vapeur transatlantique en route pour Londres. Angleterre, dans le but de compléter see 6- tudes légales au bureau de M. Russel. M. Arseuault est le second Acadien de cette pro- vince qui se soit livré à l'étude de la jurisprudence. Evidem- ment il ne se propose pas de faire les choses à moitié. 11 comprend l'importance du rôle que doit jouer un véritable avo- cat dans la société. Son ambition ne se borne pas seulement à obtenir un brevet de compétence qui lui donne droit de plaider devant nos tribunaux et s’ac- quitter des fonctions d'un ma- gistrat ordinaire, mais il veut en outre bénéficier des connais sances étendues qui peuvent ètre acquises à un bureau dont la réputation est universelle. Bravo ! Monsieur Aubin! Bon vuyage et succès !

Mc- Donald, curé de Miscouche, et la messe de clôture par le Rerd. Dr Chaisson, curé de Palmer Road. Outre ces deux messieurs, le Revd F. X. Gallant, cure de St. Antoine de Bloomfield et ie Revd P. P. Arsenault, curé du Mont Carmel, ont assisté notre digne curé aux confessions. Près de 1,200 personnes se sont approchées de la Sainte Table:
