The prisoners mughran. Power and Mollnnis wore further remand- rd at the Police Court yesterday on a charge of escaping from Queens County Jail on July 4.

On their appearance before the ' Magistrate, Mr. Mark R. Mc- Guigan" who appeared for the accused, claimed they were not re- sponsible for jail breaking as they had become intoxicated on home brew obtained in the jail, and asked‘ to be allowed to put his c11- ents in-the witness stand to sub- ” " tlate his statement. In addressing tho Battalion Brig. adier Constantino pointed out that all this honor had been won by the Highlanders under tho regime cf Col. Dawson, that every officer, N.C.O. and man was entitled to r0- wsnition in tho award in ac far as no one person but the combined efforts of the whole were respons- iblg for bringing this honor to the Province. The D.O.C. intimated that their high standard and per- sonnel showing of the party at the inspection today it was apparent that the P. E. I. Highlanders were in a fair way to win this major honor for the year 1933.

The annual Orange Tea and celebration which was held yester- dsy at Cavendish Beach was the largest sponsored by the Associ- ation fcr many years. More than 5,000 people were present on the gala occasion. A large field adjac- ent to the beach was the scene of activities.

Representatives and friends of the Association were present from all parts of tbs Province.

The parade was formed up about 2 o'clock. The members of tho dif- ferent branches of the Association and the L. O. B. A. took part. The parade, which was one of the larg-

mils in length. The pipe band was in attendance and headed the pro- cession which was marshalled by Mr. Daniel Bernard, mounted on a. white charger.

After ths parade the assembly met at the speakers booth, where a masterly and splendid address was given by Rev. F. Morris from Armadalc, N. S., who was for sev- eral years organize for the Asso- ciation in Prince Edward Island. Rev. M. O. Brenton. Carnpbellton, N. B., also gave s_ very splendid ad- dress. He was followed by Rev. G. T. A hearty address of welcome on behalf of the church was extended by Rev. H. R. Bell, which was ably and flttingly responded to by Dr. H. G. Mellick.

Following this, Dr. Mellick gave an excellent address on “Historical Reminiscences," wherein he gave a very interesting account cf the pio- neer settlers of East Point and vic- inity.

The third address "God in His- tory," was eloquently and powerfully delivered by Rev. Dr. A. C. Vincent.’

Rev. Jas. J. Farrell, D. D. Dies In Montreal

I Word was received at St. Dun- Islam's University where the priests of the Diocese are on Retreat, that Rev. James J. Farrell, D.D., profes- sor of Ehiglish at St. Dunstanks, died yesterday morning at St. Mary's Hospital, Montreal. About three weeks ago Rev. Dr, Farrell was op- erated upon and has since been critically ill. Last Friday he seem- ed- to rally and it was felt that the crisis had passed, but he unexpect- edly suffered a relapse yesterday and died about 4.15 this morning. He was one of the most talented 0i! the younger clergy of the Diocese and. after a brilliant scholastic record, won his Doctorate at Laval Univer- sity two years ago. He was born at Iona Nov. 24, 1897, and was or- dained at St. George's on June 28th, 193i. After serving at St. Duristans Basilica for a. time he was appoin- ted to the staff of the University and was an effective and beloved teacher.
