As to the latter, the Pioneer reports that ‘‘the opinions ex- reased were condemnatory of the present arrangement, while some considered that one yearly exhibition for the whole Province would suffice.”

Mr. A. E. Moxrisos has invented asystem of fire alarm for this city, which is well suite to its circumstances. Under it, telegraph wires will connect the various sections of the city with the police station, where there will be au anuunciator to register the alarms which may come from the different sections. The scheme includes the ringing of the fire-bell from the po- lice station, by means of a semaphore apparatus We hope the proposed system will receive the favorable attention of our good City Fathers. Mr. Morrison says the improvment will cost

A spectat despatch from Ottawa to the Toronto Globe says: ‘‘Mr. Hodgson, Q. C., of Charlottetown, is here to make application to the Supreme Court for leave to appeal on behalf of the Dominion Government from a decision of the Provincial Supreme Coart in the P. E. Island Bank case. The Dominion Government contended that their claim against the Bank was privileged, but the Court deciled otherwise, and from this judg- went leave is asked to appeal.” We learn that the necessary permission has been given by the Supreme Court, and that the appeal wil be Leard iv Ottawa in February next.

St. Andrew’s in Souris.

THE most pleasant event of the season was enjoyed by a number of our citizens on Saturday night last, when St. Andrew's Day, a day which Scotchmen everywhere love to celebrate, again came round, and the Scotchmen of this place, inspired with that spirit of patriotism and love for old ‘Caledonia stern and wild’ which is im- planted in the breasts of all who have the honor and are worthy of being her sons, and several of other nationalities, with that unbigoted spirit which characterizes the people of Souris, who are at all times both ready and willing to take their share of a night’s enjoyment. laid aside the cares of business and assembled at Oddfellow’s Hall to unite in doing honor to the name and memory of Auld Scotland’s Patron Saint in partaking of an oyster supper prepared for the oceasion. The seat of honor at the table was very properly given to Mr. Mc- Donald, Sheriff of this County, who clearly showed that he is a Scotchman of good type, and perfectly capable of presiding on such an occasion. Besides oysters, numer- ous other dainties crowned the socia! board, After doing ample justice to which the fol- lowing toasts, interspersed with singing of some of those good old songs of which Scotland boasts, were heartily drunk and ably responded to :—
