{t is offivially stated that there has not been a single case of cholera in Italy since the epidemic began.

\ Victoria, B. C., despatch says more hay and grain will come down from the Fraser river valley this year than ever before.

Ihe cholera epidemic at Teheran, Persia, has ceased. The deaths in the whole of

Persia since the outbreak are estimated at 30,000, one-half of which were in Teheran.

The announcement was made in the despatches the other day that the Ameri- can flsg had been torn down by a crowd at the door of a Montreal theatre, and the af- fair gained sufficient notoriety to elicit a telegram from the Secretary of State in Washington, inquiring into the matter. The foliowing ietter from the business agent of the theatrical company, an Ameri- can, who has since left Montreal, tells the whole story :

The whole transaction was done as anadver- tisemeat in connection with the White Squad- rou company, and entirely devoid of an inten- tion to cause serious trouble of any kind, but, aa it seems to have given rise to considerable feeling, I am sincerely sorry that this adver- tising scheme was ever entered into, and regret very mach that this occurrence took place.

I make this statement to you of my own free will and on condition that the government will not enter into any civil or criminal pro ceedings of any kind against myself or any of the members of my company.

A Big Mistake.

The moulting season, or the soason when hens shed their feathers will soon be at an end. The process is one that in certain re- spects debilitates and prevents hens fiom haying. The reason of this is that the grow- jag of new teathers requires all the nitrogen and phosphates coutuined in the food and there is none left to form the egg. A curious fact about the hen, and one that illustrates tre foregoing statement, is this, if a hen’s leg be broken during the laying season, she will lay her eggs without shelis until the break is Gonded The reason for this must be that all the lime contained in the food is required to unite the broken bone, there is therefore none fer the formatioz of egg shells. The formation of new feathers does not re- quire any carbonaceous or fat producing food, consequently well fed hens get very fat during the moulting. Many farmers and poultry raisers not underatanding all abcut these things kill off their old hens because they think they have stopped laying and are fat. This is a t mistake, because if the
