She was only about a month old.

She might moveabout without be- ing seen. but she couldn't do that, and not leave a scent that the wonderful noses of certain hungry folk could not follow to wherever she might be hiding. She could escape from the koenest eyes by creeping under a big leaf or any- thing else big enough to cover her. A sniffllng nose could find her there with no trouble at all.

It ivas a dreadful thought. What should a poor little Mouse out in tho Great World all alone do about it? What could she do about it.
