METHODIST MISSIONS.

Breck*n at First Church Yesterday.

The services in the First Methodist Church yesterday were of special interest. Rev. Dr. Brecken, of Mouct Allison University, preached at both services to large an] deeply interested congregations, sermons at once eloquent and full of spiritual power. Dr. Brecken came to presentithe claims of missions aud the local committee is to be congratulated on thier excellent selection of an advocate of this important department of the work of the church.

The morning sermon was from Philip- pians 1-22, and developed, most helpfrully, the power of the indwelling Christ to reconstruct the life of the individual, o/ the nation and of the world; impressively showing that the great need of the world is a manifested and indwelling Christ and that all things can be done by the individ- nal and the Charch if strengthened by the Christ. Rev. Dr. Heartz, of Springhill, N. S., assisted in the morning service.

in the evening the Pastor of the Church, in presenting the 72nd Aunual Report of the Missionary Society, urged the congre- gation by increased liberality to assist in the conversion of the Gentiles and hasten the coming of the Kingdom of Gol. He avnounced the committee in charge of this part of the Church’s work, as follows +>

Rev. Dr. Brecken delivered a powerful plea for missions, from Romans 1-14, 15. With strong argument and beautiful illus- trations he made the great congregation feel atonce the privilege and duty of assisting in this noble work of preaching the Gospel of the Son of God.

The choir was in fine form and fur- nisbed appropriate music, the rendering of the Anthem in the evening service being especially fioe. After prayer Miss Florrie Karle delighted the congregation with her beautiful rendering of the solo “Babylon.” The congregational singing in this Church is hearty and good,
