The President opened the meet- ing with the singing of the ode fol- lowed by the collect repeated in unison and seventeen members an- swered the roll call by an exchange of flower slips or secds. There were four visitors present. The minutes of the last meeting were then read, approved and signed.

The sick committee gave their report and there was nothing to report from the school committee. New committees were appointed as follows: Sick, Mrs. Wal Marshall and Mrs. John Misener; school, Mrs. Alvin MacLaughlan; lunch. Mrs. Thomas Mccabe and Mrs. John Misener.

Correspondence was read and dis- cussed and it was decldw to con- tribute 32.00 to the Lady Alexander Gift. Fund. 310 was voted to be paid as a. share of the electric light bill for the Covehead Hall. The govern- ment grant of 32.60 was received.

Mrs. Percy Douglas very gener- ously gave the quilt to be lotteried again. Mrs. Ray Carr. Mrs. Harry Lawson and Mrs. Harry Mac- Lsnghlin offered to make the tick- ets. Two more articles were handed in for the Red Cross.

Mrs. Stanley Murchison kindly invited members for the June meeting and those wishing to or- der clms for canning were asked to bring money to this meeting. Treasurer's report was given and collection amounted to 81.71.

A contest was put on by Mrs. Gordon MacEwen and won by Mrs. Aubrey MacPhall.

Twenty-four members answered the roll call by putting a plant slip in a box. Later the box was passed around to the members and each one took their choice. There were two visitors who were cordially welcomed by the president.

Mrs. Robinson from Charlotte- town gave a demonstration of fancy work which was much enjoyed by all. The minutes of the last meet- ing were read by the secretary, Mrs. Fred Thomson and were approved as read. A discussion of business and reading correspondence follow- ed.

Mrs. Elmer Brown and Mrs. Ros- coe MacDonald were appointed on a committee to go to Charlotte- town to see about the Musical Fest- ival for the coming year. Mrs. Clif- ford Chappelle invited the mem- bers to her home for the next meet- ing.

The hostess then served lunch with Mrs. Milton Vessey and Mrs. Clifford Ci-appelle on the lunch committee. The singing of "God Save the Queen" brought the meet- ing to an end.

There was also a discussion on how to get rid of starlings; these birds are a nuisance to many and are increasing in numbers. Unfinished business included a report on the whist party which had been held in the hall and proved successful. It was decided that members would subscribe to the Institute News at the next

meeting.

The secretary reported that the annual Government grant to the Institute had-been received, and a report was given by members attending the W. 1. district con- vention executive meeting held in Heatherdale during the month.

At the district convention which will take place in Heatherdale, with Brooklyn W. I. as the enter- taining Institute. Whim Road will take care of the "fun and non- sense” part of the program. Fur- ther plans for the convention were discussed.

The school committee reported the need of paper towels in the school, and the sick committee made three visits during the month and treats were taken on each visit. Appreciation of these visits was expressed.

Miss Mary K. Munro gave a very interesting demonstration showing the members how to make a plant holder from a large size tin can by cutting it lengthwise and ben” the edges back. Holes were punch- ed so that it could be used for a hanging plant. The plant holder which Miss Munro passed around for the members to see was paint- ed and decorated with designs cut from table oilcloth. The demon stratlon was enjoyed by everyone.

A penny auction was held by Mrs. Webb Nicholson and the win- ner was Miss Betty Macneth, who will be in charge of the sale next

month. The entertainment colnmltwc held several contests. the win-

ners being Mrs. Wesley Campbell and Mrs. Leslie Stuart. During the social hour following the meet- ing the hostess Mrs. Cls.rey. served an enjoyable lunch to the large gathering present. Assisting in serving were several of the young- er membe s.

CLINTON W. I.

Mrs. James Macliay entertained the members of Clinton Women's Institute on Tuesday evening. May 13th, and the " opened with 'the singing of the "Ode" followed by the "Creed" in unison. Roll call .was sesponded to by twelve members exchanging flower slips. There were two visitors present. Two nightles and two sweaters were passed in and proceeds from the pantry sale and bazaar am- ounted to 349.35. The following bills were paid: Paint for Clinton hall 349.25; painters wages 362.00. It was moved and seconded to get six new blinds for the hall and Mrs. Bruce Clark was appointed to purchase same.

A liberal donation of Morse's tea and codes was distributed among the members. It was decided to ask Kinkora to present their play in the hall and Mrs. Sterling Mac- Kay expressed her thanks for a treat which she had received. Three sick calls were made. Mrs. Willard Riley and Mrs. Charles
