To whichever group they belong it is their way of life. They have no choice. The hunters hunt because they must in order to live The hunted run and hide because they must and are always afraid. All of the hunted are sure that life is hardest for them. At first he didn't see Raddy, but Reddy saw him. When Flip looked up he did see Reddy and he d.idn‘t see him. No, sir, he didn't see Reddy at all Are you wondering how he could see yet not see any one as big as e. Fox? What Flip saw was a stranger. one whom he never had seen before. ‘an un- pleasant looking stranger llfore Flip had time for a real good look at him the stranger. snarling and growling and showing a wide mouthful of teeth, sprang at him With a yelp of fright . Flip turned tall and ran. Glancing back of his shoulder he saw the frightful stranger right at his heels. Then and there Flip started to show how fast he could run, and he didrrt look behind again until he was half way across ihe Clreen Mead- ows toward home.

Of course you have kuessed who the frightful stranger really was. He was Reddy Fox. l-le was trying an old trick, on: he had success- fully used before on a bigger Dog than Flip, one supposed to know all about Foxes and their tricks for he was trained to hunt them. Yet Raddy had made him turn tail just as Flip had done. Flip was hardly to be blamed for being frightened

“That was a Foxy Trick." said Blacky the Crow, his bright eyes twinkling. It was just the kind of a trick he would have enjoyed playing himself. “Supposing.” he added, "that Dog hadn't run. What would you have done then?"

Roddy grinned "But he did run so what is the good of suppos- ing?" said he.

“You would have turned tall and run." declared Blacky positively. '“You were hltiifinc."
