Dr. Harkness, of the Academy of Science of San Francisco, has lately made some interesting discoveries in the city of Carson in Nevada. In excavating for the foundation of a new State prison a ledge of sand-stone was struck, in which were found some mammoth remains of surprising por- tions, as may be judged from the assertion that there are amoung other things foot- priats, which are magnificent fac simifes of the human foot and which measures twenty- two inches in length. Casts of the boves are to be taken, and slabs of the sandstone with the footprints to be carefully pre- served, The region seems too remote to admit of the explanation that has been maliciously suggested that some of the Cnicago women have been down there barefoot.
