A New Heart.
An anecdote was pubiished many | years ago, concerning the Indian Chief Teedyuscung, king of the Delowares. One evening he was sitting at the fire- side of afriend. Both of them were silently looking at the fire, indulging their own reflections. At length the silence was broken by the friend, who | said. “ 1 will tell you what I have been | thinking of. “That’s impossible; it can’t be done,” Teedyuscung immediately replied, Silence again ensued. Teed- yuscung lighted his pipe and walked about theroom. Inabout a quarter of ap hour he came to his friend with a smiling countenance, and taking the pipe from his moutb, said “ Brother, [have been thoughtful of what you have told me. If the Great Spirit that made man would give him a new heart, he could do as yon say, but not else.” Thus the Indian found the only means by which man can fulfil his social duties.
