on Thursday January 5th. At 3PM the Senate decision concerning smoking in the

classrooms of the University

was diseussed. Action has been taken in pro- hibiting smoking in the classrooms by having the maintenance staff ref move all ash trays in the class rooms as well as posting no smoking Signs in all class rooms. It was thought that this was adequate action to prohibit smoking in the class rooms as well as in the Gym during any examination period as well as class periods. The examinations and ' evaluation committee presented their report before Senate, headed by Chairman Prof. Maclntyre. The committee had passed a recommenda- tion that no major test, exam, or term paper may be assigned within the last two weeks of classes. The intent of the motion was so to protect the students from having to be subjected to last minute major assignments from a Prof. during the last two weeks of class. 'After much dis— cussion concerning the wording of the motion it was passed by Senate that no test, or exam shall be set and administered without the permission of the Chariman of the Dept. and Dean of the - Faculty during the two week period presceding the final examination

There is a Meeting for anyone interested in working on the Winter Carnival Committee in the basement of Memorial on Monday, Jan.I1/77 at 3 PM. Anyone interested in working on the com— mittee, or have any ideas for the carnival are asked to attend.

This years Winter CarniVal Executive is made up of Gerald McKenna, Debbie McMurdo, Elisabeth Burke, Tina Madan, Jim Picone, and Cathy Connely. Peter MacQuaid is in charge of booking the bands. The Executive has decided on the second week in February for Carnival '77.

Rough plans have been drawn up. It is hoped that more will be added following the

on Sunday with a hockey game, two basketball games, and a movie. There are many events planned for the days inbetween. They include Nightly Beer Bashes in the Gym,_a Car Rally,"

a talent’show, a fashion show, Carnival Ball, afternoon pubs, Scavenger hunt, and many other events. It is hoped that we will be able to provide a number of dry events as well as wet ones.

The Carnival Com— .mittee has looked over the reports of the Carni- ‘vals for the last five years. We have incor— porated ideas from all

some very good new ideas. We are planning on making this the best Carnival

in the history of UPEI. The Carnival Committee

has looked over the results

of the Cadre.Winter Carn- ival Survey. We were very pleased with ther‘ ~ number of survey 5 that were passed in. It

seems that people are

at least interested in the forthcoming Carnival.

There were a number of bands suggested in the survey 3 and Peter has been contacting many of their agents. (Sorry, but we can't afford the Beatles.

We couldn't better their last offer of $50 million:)

Anybody that was at last years Carnival can -remember standing in the freezing cold for
