Fix Assessment Rate for Montague

The assessment rate for the town of Montague was fixed at 80 cents on real estate and 20 cents on personal property at the regular monthly meeting of the Town Council held last night. The rate' will therefore remain the same as last year. The assessment list has been completed by the as- users, A. D. Maclsure and C. A. Shaw, and passed in to the coun- oil. it is understood that the tax notice will be sent out in the near future.

The meeting was presided over by Mayor B. H. Jeo. and present were Councillors Jamieson, Hes- sian and Reynolds. Following the reading of the minutes, the bills were presented Ind ratified. Coun- cillor Reynolds reported that the Library had been done over and was now ready. Councillor Jamie- son reported that there were u. few traffic problems which would eventually be solved. Councillor I-lemian stated that the town fin- ances were sound, and that the collection of this year's taxes would get under way as soon as the notices appeared.

A Baldwins Road resident plead- ed "guilty" to at charge under the Provincial Fisheries Regulations and was fined :10 and costs. An- other resldent of Baldwin's Road pleaded "guilty" to obstructing a peace officer and had sentence suspended. The two cases were prosecuted by the Provincial Police Constable.

A Montague I pleaded "guilty" to causing a disturbance and was fined :50 and costs or one month. and will be bound over to the peace for 12 months. A resi- dent of Baldwin's Road pleaded "guilty" to driving a motor vehicle while his ability was impaired by alcohol and was fined S50 and costs and will have his license cancelled for three months.

Signals were seen during the night on an uninhabited island where Peter Stoyles and Wallace Fowler were believed to have land- ed after their dory went adrift on B l.rip from Wabanu, Bell Island.
