Dear Students,

The Student Union is in the process of the compiling a list of persons interested in volunteering for a safe-walk program. All interested persons (females and males) are encouraged to drop in or call the student Union (566-0530) and leave their name and phone numbers with the receptionist. Again this year the Student Union will be holding a Self Defence course designed to help women to deal with the emotions and physical realities of rape. The course is approximately four hours long and will be offered on two separate evenings, possibly more, depending on numbers. The consulting com- pany, Patron Control, from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, has offered the course on a cost recovery basis. Maximum cost per student will hopefully be $10.00, possibly less depending on the number of people expressing interest. While this course is primarily aimed at females, if there are any more students who would like a course in self-defence. your name and phone number and specify which night you would like to attend the class.

The Student Union Council, at it’s meeting Sunday night, passed the following motions:

Be it resolved that the UPEI Student Union Council direct it’s Executive, Board of Governors, and Senate reps to work

’ fora full review of the UPEI Security Dept. and Be it further

resolved that this review aim to clarify the relationship between the Security Dept and the Charlottetown City Police in a manner such that any matter involving the Criminal Code of Canada will be investigated in conjunction with the Charlottetown City Police.

Be it resolved that the UPEI Student Union Executive, Board of Governors and Senate Representatives to work for the rapid but thorough drafting, discussion, ( and if need be modification) of a comprehensive sexual assault policy and committee for the University of Prince Edward Island and Be it further resolved that any committees dealing with this issue be comprised of a least 50% women.
