Eacite Carrcrep.—Mr. Owen, of Mal- peque, captured, a few days since, a large eagie which he found in the pasture field among the cows. it was not injured further than a smal! hole in one side, as though it had struck on an animal's horn. Its body is very large, and it measures 6 feet 6 inches from tip to tip of the wings. It is now in Mr. Owen's possession, and doing well. So says the Summerside Journai.

Destrorep sr Frre.—We regret to learn from the Summerside Journal that the dwel§ ling of Mr. John Praught, Grand River, Lot 14, together with the contents, including pro- visions clothing, ete., was destreyed by fire about two o'clock on Saturday afternoon last. All hands were working in the harvest tield at the time, and when the fire was discovered it was too late to save anything. The cause of the fire is anknown. As there was no in surance, Mr. Prauglit’s loss is heavy.

Jowsep tae Sitent Masority. — Many friends and relatives of Mrs. Alexander Mc- Naughton have been pained to hear the sad news from Moncton, that this most amiable and respected lady had fallsn a victim to the prevailing typhoid fever at that place. In 187L and on to 1875 Mr. MeNauguton held the position of Paymaster for Messrs, Schrie- ber & Burpee, the R. R. contractors, and re- sided here for some years. He now holds a similar position in Moncton,—and with nu- merous sympathisers in his bereavement, we sorrowfully join.

Poaitistic.—The fist step toward matching Jobn L. Sullivan against Jake Kilrain will undoubtedly be taken the first of next week. Mr. Johnston, the Brooklyn sporting man, who has stated he would back the big fellow, sent a letter to John L., and when Sullivan read it yesterday he felt happy. Mr. John- son informed Sullivan he would back him for $10,000, or as much as the Kilrain party wanted. He requested John L. to go to Brooklyn as soon as possible, so that he might talk the matter over with him and find out how he weuld want the match made, and then he would put up $2500 as a forfeit. Sullivan will go to Brooklyn in a day or two to confer with his backer, and a few days later the meney will be posted and a challenge issued to Kilrain.

Horse Nores.—Mr. J. L. Neary has re turned from Boston, where he had gone on business connected with horses. He took Contidence, jr., a Confidence horse formerly owned by Chas. Smith, and Lambert's Pride, by Prince Lambert. He hassold a half inter- est in Confidence jr., and brought back two brood mares; one a large bay by Bachman, Ist dam by Godfrey Patchen, 2nd dam by Mambrino Chief, the other mare is by Ail Right, bred by Dr. E. Blanchard, of P. E. 1. He also brought back a stallior, General Bay- ard, six years old, sired by Bayard Knox, by Palmer Knox, by Gen. Knox, dam by Don Folane.— Kentvtlle Chronicle.
