Jobless Fund Starts Plunge

By ROBERT RICE OTTAWA (CP) —— The unem- ployment insurance fund has started its downhill plunge to threatened bankruptcy failing by $27.200.000 to 371300.000 at the end of January.

The January dip in the fund's reserve followed the downward trend of a year earlier, thus re- inforcing predictions a month ago that the fund will be bank- rupt sometime in March or

The unemployment insurance commission paid out 358559.895 in regular and seasonal benefits in January. In the sa me month, total revenue going into the fund—chieﬂy from contribu- tions from employers. employ- ees and the government— amounted to 331.387.6134.
