Last season John was sidelined for quite some time and his employers are not sure the same thing won’t~happen again. When this column was written, it was very doubtful if Bellevance would. be in the lineup when Navy and Royals clash tonight. However, the Royals’ management still have hopes of hanging on to their ace rear- guard and we hope they are successful. Chaps like Bellevance are certainly an asset to any league. :

In the shorl time he played here, he has proved decidedly popular with players and fans alike. From all sides, we have heard nothing but praise for the work of Bellevance.

WHEN A REFEREE calls a penalty, he means what he says. All the talking in the world isn’t going to,make him change his decision. If he points the finger at you for tripping, off you go for two minutes. The same with hooking, roughing, elbowing and the other offences that call for minor sentences. ee

This practice of penalized players following referees around and disputing the call should be at once. If the team captain wants a word with the official, all well and good. But even in this case the conversation is just a waste of time and that being the case, the said conversation should be very brief But how often have we had to watch players (not the cap- tain) chasing the referee around after he tagged them for a penalty. This foolish practice could be halted at once by handing out a misconduct as well as a minor.
