Moncton Sleeper Service

MONCTON.——Lack of patronage resulting in an annual $15,000 de- ficit on the operation is impelling the CNR to discontinue sleeping car service betWeen Moncton and Charlottetown, P.E.I., It was an- nounced in Moncton Wednesday.

George Stiven, general passeng- er agent for the company’s At- lantic Region, said the sleeper on the daily train in each direction will be removed when time table changes for the fall and winter become. effective later this month.

Mr. Stiven said the sleeper, able to carry 32 passengers has a daily average revenue occupancy rate of only three and half. On a percentage basis, the sleeping car is 90 per cent unused.

Youth Pleads Guilty To Two Charges

I A IHunter River youth, appear- mg in Magistrate‘s Court yester- day morning on two seperate charges, was remanded one week for sentence.

Appearing before Magistrate Gilbert A. Gaudet. the youth pleaded guilty to “joyriding” - taking a motor vehicle with in- tent to drive without the owner's censent - and willful destruction of property. ‘

Eight truckers also appeared before Magistrate Gaudet on charges of operating a motor vehicle without due care and con- sideration for other persons on the highway. All were fined $10 and costs or 10 days when they plead- ed guilty as charged.

Included among the violaters were two residents of Southport and one from Harrington, Vernon River, Wood Islands. Murray Ri- ver, Glen Martin and Douglas Street in Charlottetown.
