Orrawa, Nov. J1.—It is settled that Perliament will meet either the last week in January or the first week in February. Any lingering idea that the Government had any notion of an appealto the coun. trv this winter has been entirely dispelled by the eveuts of the past month.

Mr. Tarte bas developed into a veritatle old man of the sea,and until the Govern- ment caa do something to lessen the feel-~ ing existing in all parts of Canada against the Minister of Public Works there will be no appeal to the country.

Sr. Joun, Nov. 11.—Last night @ fire broke out in an old barn cif Union Street, and before the fire apparatus arrived bad been communicated to a big tanvery of C. H. Peters & Sons. This was entirely destroyed with 1:8 contents, as well aa the Peiers homestead, occupied by Mr. John Peters, aod another building alongside occupied by John Moriarty. The total value of the property destroyed is about $70,000. There is little insurance.
