General Order. HE Commander-in-Chief has had under his consideration recent proceedingsof the Charlottetown Artillery Com- pany. r I ‘

His Excellency has also had under his consideration a letter from Captain Morris, Commanding this Company, in. which, in answer to an'enquiry made of him, he has reported- that the Company under his Command paraded in the public streets, on Wednesday afternoon, on the 10th inst., without his sanction, and also without the cognizance of the other officers of the Company ; and further, that he, on the previous evening, having some intimation of their intention of handing in their Arms, remonstrated with them, and explained to them the Section of the Law by which they could not be released as Volunteers without giving three months notice.

The Commander-in-Chief has received with satisfaction the assurance of Captain Morris that he,’ in conjunction with the other Oflicers, did all in theirwpower to put a stop to the extraordinary proceeding referred to. ' ‘

Without strict attention to discipline and subordination. to superior authority, a military body of any description will soon degenerate into an armed mob, and if the Volunteer Force desires really to become an eflieient organization its members cannot keep too much before their minds the rinci- ple, that unquestioning obedience to authority is their first

General Order.

7 ME Commander-in-Chief has had under his consideration

a letter from Captain Morris, commanding the Charlottetown Artillery Company, with which was forwarded a communication from that Company to their Commanding Officer, in which the mem- bers of the“ Company express their sincere regret for their proceed; ings which called forth His Excellency’s Memorandum of the 15th instant, and promise caution and strict obedience-to discipline for the future, iins Excellency will “ pardon their delinquency ” on this occasion.

The Commander-in Chief has received with satisfaction the assur- ance of Captain Morris that the expressions used by the Company are sincere.

As the letter conveying the unanimous sentiments of the Company shows that they are fully aware of the seriousness of the military offence which called forth His Excellency ’s grave‘censurc, it is un- necessary for His Excellency to reiterate that censure or his remarks on the discipline which he requires to be maintained in the Volun- teer Force. .

It was with extreme regret that the Commander-in-Chief had decided to disband a Company which is of such long standing, and has acquired such roticiency, as the Artillery Company. It is, therefore, with equal) pleasure that His Excellency has decided that discipline has been sufficiently maintained, without his having had recourse to that extreme measure. _

The Order for the recall of the Arms issued to the Company is, therefore, hereby cancelled, and the Company will resume its duties.

His Excellency is pleased to direct that this Memorandum be pub—
