Exhibition, we observe that the interests of the agriculturist in this Province are far vreater and more valuable than those of other lasses, for upwards of eighty per cent. of these exports is the production of the farmers who thus prove the justice of their title to be considered the bone and sinew of the country.

From a memorandum kindly supplied to me this morning by E. L. Lydiard, Esq., of H. M. Customs, | find that the shipment of eggs from King's and Queen's Counties in IS78¢ was 590,903 dozen, valued at $57,152. ln IS87 the quantity had increase to 1,389,215 lozen, valued at $185,754. If to this we add the quantity shippedgfrom Prince County, we will ind that the value of the exports of ,eggs from the Province in 1887 must have approxi mated a quarter of a million dollars,

The recent successful inauguration of the Summerside Driving Park, where the live stock is to-day exhibited, has stimulated the people of Charlottetown to take action in the same direction, and a company now organz- ing, with a capital of twenty thousand dol- lars, has purchased a tract of land in the Royalty of Charlottetown for a Driving Park und Exhibition Grounds, so that by next year we may expect to take anew departure in Provincial Exhibitions.

hibits were fully as good, perhaps better. The potatoes, turnips, earrots and beets were very fine indeed. Special mention ught to be made of the cabbages shown by Messrs. Henry Scales of St. Eleanor’s, and Jas. Gourlie, of Summerside. One of the cabbages exhibited by Mr. Scales weighed o7 pounds.

The exhibit of butter was excellent; and several very tine cheese were shown.

Of flowers there was a small but fine display, comparing favorably with the flowers exhibited at Charlottetown; and the same remark might be made respecting the fancy articles and textile fabrics, which evidence the thrift and good taste of the ladies of Prince County. :

One of the noticeable features of the ex- hibition was a huge stuffed black bear, shown by Mr. R. H. Macdonald, of St. Eleanor’s.

Outside the Drill Shed there was an _ in- teresting exhibit of agricultural machines and implements by Messrs. Hail, Dickie- son and Bishop; and William Pound, of Margate, exhibited a splendid wagon and sieigh.

The cattle show was held on the Driving Park, and a very geod piace it was for it ; but the show was rot, on the whole, up to the standard of former seasons. The show of sheep was, however, creditable to Stuart Burns, Martha Beaton, Frank Glydon, T. C. Wright and William Le, furgey, who were the principal exbibitors.

In cattle the only remarkable exhibits were the shows of Hon. John Yeo and John Richards, whose Polled Angus and Hereford Cattle are very fine indeed, and attracted much attenticn.

The show of horses was fairly good, fully up to the average of former years. The splendid carriage stallions Physician and John E. Rysdyck, jr., were shown in har- ness and made a fine appearance. A draft stallion by Mr. Robert Glover, of Summer- side, was also greatly admired. Mr. John Richards exhibited a splendid filly, one of {the most beautiful daughters of Hernando, jand Mr. Donald Ross, Wilmot Valley, showed two fine cart fillies.

Amone the many improvements which have been effected in Charlottetown during the season which is now closing, perhaps the most noticeable are those apparent in the establishment

“The London House,” of Messrs. Beer Brothers, and *‘ Dodd's Building,” which includes the handsome

store of Messrs. Dodd & Rogers and Dr. Dodd's Medical Hall. THE LONDON HOUSE.

The London House was well and sub- stantially built by the Messrs. Davies about twenty years ago; and has ever since been a centre of attraction for purchasers of dry goods. The improvements of this year will in no wise detract from its importance in this respect—in fact as much, or more dry goods business than ever may be done in it; while it is now, in addition a centre ef attraction for those who want good, well-fitting clothes for the body, and re- liable news and information for the mind.

The ground floor of the building has been divided by a partition running its entire length. Messrs. Harris & Stewart retain the larger store on the corner—which is still one of the finest in the town—and will continue to sell al] kinds of dry goods at cash prices. They have an elegant show room in the rear for millinery and manties, and about two-thirds of the first flat for the sale of clothing, carpets, house furnishings, and hats and caps.

The smaller store on the ground floor is occupied by Messrs. McLeod & McKenzie as a gentlemens’ outfitting establishment. Messrs. McLeod & McKenzie have also a large, airy and well-lighted work room (in which the garments are made) on the second tloor.

Two otlices, fronting on Queen Square and commanding a tine view of our beauti- ful City Gardens, are still to be let ; and the remainiog portion of the building is held by THe Examiner Publishing Com- pany. The entrance to~THr EXAMINER) otlice is by a door and stairway ingenivusly placed in the front of the building, so that

The busi- ness and editorial oftices of THe EXAMINER are on the first floor—first door to the right—and the well-furnished jobbing room, the composing room and the press- room occupy a large part of the second floor.

Messrs. McKinnon & McLean are now supplying the building with hot water apparatus; and, altogether, the London House has been thoroughly repaired and improved —aceording to plans furnished by the architect, Mr. W. C. Harris, jr., and under the superintendence of the con- tractor, Mr. Cox. As it stands to-day, it reflects very great credit upon the owner, George Davies, Esq.; and it will be a lasting monument te his thorough-going ability.

It is worthy of remark that the stone sidewalk in front of the London House was one of the first laid down in this city ; and that now, after twenty-five years have elapsed, citizens generally are only just beginning to imitate the good example set by the Messrs. Davies.

MESSRS. BEER BROTHERS,

The old wooden front of the store of Messrs. Beer Brothers has been pulled down, and a new one of brick and stone—one of the handsomest and most imposing in the city—has been erected. There are two very large plate windows on the ground floor, and six jarge double ones in the first and second. The interior of the extensive store on the ground floor has been entirely remodeled to meet the re- quirements of Messrs. Beer Brothers’ large and continually increasing business. The first floor has also been greatly improved. The millinery department on this floor is well stocked with the latest novelties, and the carpet department (on the same floor) has received particular attention, the stock being bought directly from the manufac- turers in the Gld Country.

In making these improvements, Messrs. Beer Brothers have well occupied the two months in which their store was closed. The sashes were made for them by Messrs. R. Palmer & Co., at the Charlottetown Sash and Door Factory. Mr. Parkman superintended the wood-work, and Mr. Philip Coyle the masonry. Messrs. Phillips and Chappeil are the architects.

The store was re-opened to-day. The re- opening having been well advertised by Tue EXamMIneR, etc., it is needless to say that there was a great rush.

These ‘‘ opening days’ were established by Messrs. Beer Brothers in the spring of 1887, and they have steadily grown in popularity.

DODD'S BUILDING.

A parapet wall has been placed all around this building; and it has been made practi- cally fire-proof from the outside, besides¢ having its appearance very greatly improved. Dr. Dodd has introduced ** something new in show windows;” and judging by the large flag stones placed in front of the building, one of the best sidewalks in the city. We congratulate Messrs. Dodd & togers and also Dr. Dodd upon the marked improvements they are effecting.
