Island Golf Team, last year’s A.I. A.A. Champs, puts it’s title on the line this week at the Ken—W0 Golf

and Country Club in Wolfville, NS. This year’s team was decided on a 36 hole tournament at the Belve—

dere Golf & Winter Club, Tues. & Wed., September 22nd and 23rd. Danny MacIsaac, playing some fine steady golf was low man with. a

150 total on rounds of 75-75.

One of the strangest intramural tournaments will be ehld on Oct 4th It is a first for any University in North America. You guessed it. Yes, it is a TUNA TOURNAMENT to be held at North Lak.. It is an effort of the Athletic Department to increase it’s intramural program. There will be seven teams; six stu- dent teams and one faculty team; all bidding for first prize which will be given to the team with the big- gest tuna in pounds.

The event will be video-taped and presented to the North American Conference on Intramurals to be held in Indianna. Vince Mulligan will attend on behalf of U.P.E.I. and he hopes at that time to per— . suade them to have their next con- ference at U.P.E.I..

There is another Intramural Tour- nament on this Week. It will be an Intramural Golf Tournament open to all faculty and students.

Even the worst golfers should enh .ter because the scoring system in use will allow them to win or come near the top. The tournament will be held at Belvedere Golf & Winter Club. Entrance fee is the cost of green fees - $2.00 dollars. The tent-

This weekend (Oct 3rd) the foot- ball Panthers open their season with a game against ‘Acadia in Wolfville. Game time is 1:30 P.M.. All those who are able to attend the game should. The Panthers want and de- serve our support.

Panthers hockey practices as yet are unscheduled. According to the Athletic Department the practices will start as soon as the ice is put in the rink.

According to the Athletic Depart- ment, there may be one or two ex- hibition games in Charlottetown in- volving teams from the Ch’town . area and the University Panthers. ~ The dateshave yet to be announced.

Anybody interested in a managing position for Varsity basketball and hockey should see Ed. Hi1ton.Ath— letic Director. His office is located ‘ in the basement of the Gym.

of Wales College. The team poses a big threat to

successfully defend it’s title, and we look for a strong performance from these four capable boys. We wish them the best of luck at Wolfville and hope they can bring the Champ- ionships home to U.P.E.I. for it’s second straight year and only it’s second year in operation. Results will be published in next week’s

igan. Mr. Mulligan’s office is lo- cated in the Gym behind the stage. Intramural football will be start- ing soon. According to the Athletic Department, the teams‘will go by houses, i.e. Dalton, Memorial, Main , Dale, Caroma, Monty Hall and City. This year there will be two types of football played; flag and tackle. The leagues are made up of several teams and if your team loses two games you are eliminated. This con- tinues until a winner is declared. Tackle is played first and immed- iately following completion of this league; the flag league will open play. This is not final so there could be a Change in this a change in this. For schedules look on bulletin boards in residences and other buildings on campus. On Wednesday, Sept 23rd, the U.P.E.I. Athletic Department held a trainer’s clinic.

The clinic was run by U.P.E.I.’s head trainor, Dave MacNeil and the medical profession was represented by Dr. Burge. It was attended by approximately twenty—five people representing training staffs of high schools throughout the province.

The clinic covered various aspects treatinginjun'es and a demonstration

of various instruments used by the Athletic Department at this Uni- versity.

Sports

The U.P.E.I. Tennis Team will be competing in the Maritime Inter- collegiate Tennis Tournament at Dalhousie University on Oct. 12th. This tournament is for men only who will compete in single and dou- ble competition.

Atlantic College Bowl will be held on November 14th at Saint Mary’s University field in Halifax. It will be played between the winner of

the Bluenose Football Conference and Central Canadian Intercollegiate

Football Conference with the win- ner to go/ to the Canadian College Bow1._ ,

Canadian College Bowl will be held

in Toronto on November 21st. The opponents will be the winners at the Atlantic College Bowl and winners ‘of the Western College Bowl who will decide who will reign supreme in Canadian Intercollegiate Football for 1971.
