Clive W. Currie, (aboveh who for many years has been on the engineering staff of the Fed- eral Department of Public Works in Charlottetown, has been ap- pointed District Engineer in charge

of the department. He succeeds Mr. H. E. Miller, recently retired. As District' Engineer Mr. Currie will supervise all activities of the Federal Public Works Department in Prince Edward Island.

The new chief, engineer is well qualified for the important posi- tion, from the standpoint both of experience and education. He has served with the department for many years and took his degree in engineering from the Nova Scotia Technical College, after attending; that institution and Dalhousie University.

After gmduation from college he was employed for a time with the Nova Scotia Power Commission. before joining the Engineering staff of the Department of public Works in Charlottetown.

Mr. Currie served overseas in the First World War with the La- land Artillery Battery, commanded by the late Col. W. B. Prowae of Chnrlottetovm. He enlisted on the day war broke out.

Mr. Currie is widely known in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scctia, and has always taken a kenn interest in community affairs.

The Kiwanas wading pool will be opened for the season tomorrow night at 730 pm. The Band of the Prince Edward Island Reece Reg- iment, by kind permission of Lt Colonel A. W. Rogas, ED-. W present a band concert.

Last year, 8'74 candidates receiv- ed instruction in Red Cross swim- ming and water safety at Brighton Beach. Practically all of these used the Kiwanas pool during the lesson period and was kept busy from late June until Labor Day. The average fine day attendance was 400 child- ren. the greater part of which were under ll years of age.

She was Canada's only representative at the international conference of Wo- men's Institutes at Llandudno, Wales, and was until recently I hostess at the Nuffield Service- men's Centre in London. Miss Mc- Lure is returning to Canada this summer.

COUNTY COURT - In the county court of Prince County yesterday. with Judge L. G. Lewis presiding, the case of James Art- hur and Company. plaintiff, verses Maritime Asphalt Products Ltd, defendant, action taken by plain- tiff for bill of 3359.12 for work done and materials supplied to the de- fondant. was heard. Three witnes- ses were heard for the plaintiff and two for the dfeeridant. After hearing the evidence Judge Lewis adjourned the case for judgement until Wednesday at 9:30. Court was adjourned until ten o'clock this morning when the case of Waldon Woodside verses Bruce Campbell will be heard by judge Lewis. -6.

Three were lined 810 and costs or 10 days in jail. The cases of three others were adjourned till July 5. Two were fined 8” and costs or 20 days in jgil. Another two were sentenced to 30 days in jail. one was sentenced to 10 days in jail and the lift: was fined I10 and costs or 5 days in jail.
