Perkins, for many years local buyer for. Mosgrove & Bro., will leave for New York to- day, where he will act as purchaser for the same house. He was presented yesterday with an elegant gold watch worth $200, by tke employes of the establishment.”

TATLORESS vs. Vomestic.—On Wednesday a domestic who resides on Kent street made the following complaint at the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court : ‘‘ That one Annie W—— in company with another girl assaulted her with a stick and struck her several times across tie arms and back and beat her seri- ously. The said domestic, is afraid to go eutside the door where she resides for fear of the said Annie W——-.” The matter came up for trial before the Magistrate to-day. Miss Annie produce! three witnesses; succeeded in proving an a/idi, and the case was there- fore dismissed,

We are creditably informed that over sixty applications have been made for the office in the Customs Department of this city left vacant by the death of Mr. W. H. Wilsor. It is not yet kuown whether or not an ap- pointment will be made, as it is the inten- tion of the [Government to work the De- partment with fewer officials. The mission of Mr. Wolfe to this city is to enquire into the matter just mentioned, andif he finds that the business of the Department can be transacted with the present number of officials, no fur- ther appointments will be made.

A Very Paryrut Case or Bereave- ment at Lor 48,—Mr. D. M. McLeod re- moved from Charlottetown to California early last summer. Mra. McLeod, with her two children, had intended to proceed thither this fall. They would have left the Island the first part of this month; but just as all was ready diphtheria of a very malignant type settled upon the eldest of the children; and, after several days of severe suffering, little Cecil H. died Oct. 31, aged two yearsand five months. A few days after the younger, Laura M., took the saine disease, and died Nov. 12, aged one year anc three months. These twe healthy and promising children taken away so sud- denly and under circumstances so peculiar, how strange, how mysterious are the ways of Divine Providence. Universal sym- ay is felt for these bereaved parents.
