More enccees attended the operations conducted with regard to Mr. Pineau. The power of the law was brought to bear upon him from one direction, and from another there came luring offers of big pay, an easy time anda visit to the Paris Exposition in company witha distinguished member of the adminictration at Ottawa with which my Government is in co- partnership. It has been reported that a “hitch” occurred at O'tawa and that Mr. Pineau was dropped in Boston ; and it is feared that he may even yet appear to claim the seat for which he was duly elected.

The greatest, triumph of my goversment was scored in respect to Mr. Wise whose resignation, accompanied by certa n condi- tiens, was placed in the hands of my First Minister several weeks ago. By aclever rase, Mr. Wise was induced to change the wording of his resignation and ro to nu’- lifiy he eonditions upen which it was sub mitted. My government has thus bcen enabled to avoid the opening of the dis- trict and yet to secure the vacancy of Mr. Wise’s seat in thie legislature.

Somuch time has been occupied in these negotiations that little attention has been given to the public requirements and nene to the forma‘ion of a ue® policy.

My government propose to go on as they have been going; and several bills have reen prepared with the object of en- abling tbem to do eo.
