A Special Christmas Bird Count

On December 27, 1978, an additional Christmas Bird Count was conducted in the Bedeque Bay Watershed. The Count area included all the land drained by the Dunk and Wilmot Rivers and Bedeque Bay, an area of approximately 75,000 acres. The weather was reasonably cooperative with a temperature of —2°C and a light sprinkling of snow which supplied an aesthetic aura to the landscape but reduced visibility somewhat. Only one team of observers could be mustered, but they rallied valiantly and during five hours of observations, a total of 788 individuals and 14 species were observed. The team of observers consisted of David Curley, Kathy Martin, David Smith and Mary Francis Smith. The following birds were observed on the Dunk and Wilmot River Watersheds:
