Steamer Lest with All Hands.

S. W., Dec. 29.

The steamer ‘‘New England,” 291 tons, Captain J. Craig, built at Glasgow, by T. Wingate & Co., and owned by the Rich- mond River Steam Navigation Company, of Sydney, was wrecked on the Clarence River, New South Wales, on the 28th inst. The passengers and crew were all lost.

The Cabinet having decided that an ex- pedition to Tonqnin is necessary, President Grevy, on the 23rd, gave his assent to the prop 81 of Admiral Jaureguiberry, Minister of Marine, tor a larger credit and more men. The credit demanded is 11,000,000 francs. Yesterday a transport sailed from Toulon for Tonquin with reinforcements.

[The object of the expedition of France to the Chinese Seas is the annexation of Annam with Tonquin. It is believed that the French will be successful. A writer in the New York Heraldsays: ‘‘Unless the Chinese move fromthe north, or Theebaw makes a diversion from Burmah, the un-} fortunate King Tuduk, ruler of Annam, will see the entire country wrested from him as summarily as he lost Tonquin. }
