Curep by Farra Atone.—An exchange says: At the closing session of the Cana- dian Convention of the Christian Alliance at Toronto a most remarkable cure by Divine healing is said to have occurred. A lady residing on Sumach.street, who has been going on crutches since last January, was enabled to discard them, and walking up to the front, testified. She left the crutches in the hall, and one of them was carried away by Miss Scott, of Martinton, Ont., as a memento of the wonderful cure.

Cup Desertiox.—About ten o'clock last night some of the occupants of a house on Grafton street—between Queen and Pownal— found an infant at their door and took it into the house. On close inspection they found that it belonged to one of their boarders—at least it was ticketed to him. The boarder not being at home at the time, the nature ot the ‘‘find” was made known to the police, who found out that the mother was a young woman living in that portion of the city known as Palmer’s Lane, and that the child had only been born that morning. The mother was ill in bed when the policemen called, and on their advice she sent for the child and had it brought home. The boarder has not yet been heard from.

Thunder and Lightning Storm.

Lockport, N. S., May 14.

This locality was visited by a terrific thunder and lightning storm this morning. Two houses were struck by lightning owned by Captain Colin MeKay and Deanj Lloyd. L. E. Clark, Superintendent of the Money Order Department in the Boston post office, and E. B. Palmer, a clerk in the same department, were arrested Satur- day by Inspector J. 'T. Boynton, of the United States Secret Service Department, charged with unlawfully opening a package addressed to William J. Vickery, one of the Board of Civil Service Examiners, now holding examinations in this city.

Heavy Rain and Snow.

Sr. Pavt, Minn., May 14.

Specials from various points in Minne- sota and Dakota give accounts of a heavy rain and snowfall to-day at Oriska, Dakota, and about four inches of snow fell during the morning and it rained during the rest of the day. At Millbank, Dak., it has been raining hard the past twelve hours, and is stil] at it. At Bismarck at 6 o’clock six inches of snow lay on the ground.

Against Salisbury.

Lonpon, May 14.

William O’Brien, M. P., has obtained a writ against Lord Salisbury on a charge of libel. In a recent speech at Waterford the premier accused O’Brien of advocating murder and robbing men by taking farms from which tenants were evicted. For this speech the action was brought.

Horrible Accident.

Wrvyirec, May 14.

A horrible accident occurred at Rat Portage this morning—a German laborer named Traynor was instantly killed in a saw mill, by the saw breaking and cutting his head off.

The Compton Contest.

Orrawa, May 14. A gentleman who returned to-day from Compton reports that the prospects of the Government candidate are excellent. The Grit-Prohibition compact is likely to prove as great a fizzle in Compton as in Cumber- land and Shelburne.
