Five Months For Theft of llarness

Joseph Saunders. Mt. Vernon. ap- peared in Georgetown yesterday be- fore Stipendlary Magistrate Joseph W. MacDonald charged with steal- ing harness. the property of Wil- liam Saunders of Point Prim. The offence was alleged to have taken place on Dec. 1 at or near Alliston. The accused pleaded guilty under Sec. 386 of the criminal Code of lcanada. He was sentenced to five lmonths in King's County Jail at Georgetown.

It was learned that the harncs-. had been sold to II resident of Card- igan, and was subsequently recov- ered.

Q- -hat went through your mind when the loan didn't go through, did you enquire about it? A-I just filled them out and then when I didn't get any money I didn't bother with it any more because i went away. i went away to Ontario.

Q-You had never been a fish- erman? A-No..never.

Q-Had you intended to go fishing after you had got the loan. or had you been told that this money was on the go? A-Well. Sir, something of that nature. There was a story an the go that there was money to be had and 1 was told that the farmers as well as the fishermen were to get it.

Q-Is there anything else you know about Fishermerfs Loans? A-No.

Q-How long did you stay away in Ontario? A-Two-years.

Q-You just came back last year? A-29th of September last year.

Q-Your brother said the Moun- ties came to see him about his loan while he was in Ontario. did they come to see you? A-No. they didn't know where I was.
