He was glad to see that all candidates had eknrused that. sentiment in appealing for support. While he could see that it mlltht be possible to keep current expenditure down the speaker could not see how. under present uoemooyment conditions, increase in the public debt of the city could be avoided. with so much unem- ployment in the city the Council should endeavour to take advantage of all srovernment monies it could net to provide work for idle men. The slrowlnll last year would not have been so bad. had this province ROt the amount of money for un- employment other prov ces re- ceived. It would be neceso to disabuse authorities‘ of the fef that there was no unemployment situation here. and try to get more governmental support to lessen the burden on the city.
