He Came up Smiling

You never can tell when a_ baby is | going to cry. The merest trifles often strike them with the ragged edge,while really serious mishaps are sometimes taken with a certain semblance of phi! osophy. The writer deduced the above propositions from aa occurrence which he witnessed on Motte street, in this city, about 3 o'clock yesterday after noon. A little fellow came along the sidewalk trumbling a tiny carriage into | which a very pretty little baby was) fastened by a strap. The youthful | guardian of innocent infancy was pul-| ling the carriage from in front, and be- fore he knew it the wheels slipped from the pavement, the handle flew from the boy’s hand, and the carriage turned squarely upside down in the street directly in front of a horse that was ap- proaching at a lively pace. The driver reigned in his animal, but there was not time to stop, and the horse passed over the baby and his little vehicle, coming to a standstill whilethey seemed fairly | under the wheels of the waggon. There | were cries of horror trom the specta- tors. ‘Oh, he’s dead; he’s killed.’ ‘Poor little baby!’ and the like, but when the small carriage was pulled from under the wheels of the larger one and right- ed, its tiny freight looked up unhurt in- to the anxious and tearfal eyes bent | upon it and laughed.

Every Tuesday worning, at four o'clock, will leave Charlottetown for Orwell Brush Wharf; leaving Orwell Brush Wharf at. seven a. m., for Charlottetown, calling at China Point and Hajlliday’s Wharves; — leaving Charlottetown, at three p. m., for Haliday’s, China Point and Brash Wharves, where she will remain over night.

Wednesday, will leave Brush Whari for Char- lottetown at seven a. m., calling at China Point and Halliday’s Wharves; leaving Charlottetown at three p. m, to return, remaining at Brush Wharf over night,

Thursday, will leave Brush Wharf for Char: lottetown at seven a. m. calling at Chiva Point and Halliday’s Wharves; leaving Charlottetown at three p, m. to return; leaving Brush Wharf about six p. m. for Charlottetow pn.

Friday, will leave Charlottetown fur Crapaud at four a. m.; leaving Crapaud for Char- lottetown at seven a. m.; leaving Char- lottetown for Crapaud at three p, m., rer maining over night.

Saturday, will leave Ciapaud tir Cherk tte- town at sevena. m ; leaving (beil-ttee town for Crapaud at 1.30 p. m, and returning to Charlottetown frow Crapaud same day.

FARES:

Calan, to and from Orwell and Whaives, 30 cents; deck, 20 cents.

Cabin, to and from Orapaud, 40 cents; deck, 40 cents.

Excursion retorn ticketa will be issued from Charlotth town to Orwell every Thursday even- ing, at one tirst-class fare. Also, excureion return tickets will be issued every Saturday to Crapand, at one first-class fare.
