The January meeting of Frederic- ton Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Prank Cutcliife. The meeting opened with singing of The Institute Ode followed by tho creed in unison. nine members an- swered roll call by paying a nickel.

Miss Gillis reported prices on chalk boards and it was moved. sec- onded and carried to ask the ad- vice of the inspector. Bills were pre- sented and paid. The different com- mittees gave their reports and cor- respondence was read. The Insti- tute News was distributed. Sub- scriptions will be taken at next meeting. Mrs. Harry Weeks and Miss Giilis thanked the members for Christmas gifts. Next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Judson Rockham. Roll call to be answered with a valentine card which will be sent to cripple Child- ren. Lunch and Program commitee -Mrs. Frank Outoliffe and Mrs. Roy Weeks. A contest-"Naming the Baby" conducted by Mrs. Wil- liam Weeks was won by Mrs. Miller Stevenson.

Thirty-seven members and one visitor attended the monthly meet- ing of the Parkdaie Womens In- stitute held in the hall on Monday night January 8th. The President, Mrs. J. R. Compton. presided.

The minutes of last meeting were read by the secretary. Mrs. Helen Oumsnisley. Reports were given by convenors of the various com- mittees. Mrs. Ivan Vessey reported that the sick committee had sent two convalescent cards, seven sym- pathy cards and fifteen Christmas boxes to shut-ins of the community. Two mam-k ill in the hospital had been remembered with flowers. Mrs. Dollar gave a report of the school committee. Treats for the children had been purchased and gifts presented to the teachers and to the Leaders of the various organi- zations. Mrs. Frank Ross on behalf of the Institute extended a vote of thanks to the teachers for their efforts in the presentation of the Christmas concert. It was decided that a letter of appreciation be sent to Father Oorcoran for the treats given to the school children at Chris

Mrs. Fred Jenkins gave a very interesting and instructive talk on Girl Guides and told of the work being done on the Island by this organization. Mrs. Compton gave 0. report of the hall building com- mittee.

Mrs. Burns gave an encouraging report of the dinner held at the Experimental Farm on December fourteenth. Arrangements were made to cater to the Agriculture Group on January lath. It was de- cided thst five dollars be donated to the "T. B. League" and a wool- len blanket be given to "Save The children Fund". It was decided that due to extra work at the hell that tenders becalied for Janitor and that the duties required of him be clearly outlined.

The lunch committee for the Pebnisry meeting will be Mrs. Rus- sell Beer. Mrs. Frank Burke. Mrs. James Burke and Mrs. Fannie Bertram.

Mrs. James M. Campbell was hostess to the members of Success W. I. for the January meeting cn Tuesday evening the 9th. The meet. ing opened with a selection from the song sheet followed by creed in unison. Nineteen members answer- ed roll call with. a New Year's thought.

Minutes of last meeting were read and approved. The treasurer reported that 325.00 had been con- tributed to the Children's Aid sc. 019337 01 P-EJ-I S2520 net proceeds from Long River concert given in Graham's Road Hail; also 311.10 procceeds from sale of candy at Christmas concert. Several bills were presented and on motion mov- ed paid.

The visiting committee reported two calls made and treats given Several "thank you" cards were re- ceived froin sick and shut-ins who had received treats. Mrs. Francis Murray reported on the Film Board project. Correspondence received since December meeting was read and discussed.

Among the correspondence was a letter from Mrs. Malcolm MacLeotl, the Provincial president who was a delegate to the A. C.W. W. con- ference held in Copenhagen in September. In part she said "That we are linked together by the work of our organization. When people plan together,. share ups and downs of a common project. then it is that friendship and understanding grow, and we build this bridge of under- standing by personal contacts. con- ferences. letters and exchange vis- its to other lands. These help us to see other countries not as gov- ernmenm but as people. not as for- eigners or aliens but as himian beings."

A request from SIG. Peppln. Senior Inspector of Fl-ant Pathol- ogy that Institute members report any black streaks found when cooking potatoes stating where po- tatoes were grown and how they were cooked. .

Mrs". Maclcinnon. health and wel- fare convener, reminded members of public health week. Through ignorance and indifference many were not availing themselves of the Mobile X-tray free clinics and parents should be more mindful of immunization thus helping to stamp out children's diseases.

A letter was also read regarding civil defence plans and two repre- sen-tatives were appointed to at- tend a meeting when called. 85.00 was voted for Save the Children Ffimd and 55.00 to the Canadian march of dimes.

The entertainment committee - Mrs. Francis Murray and Mrs. An- gus Green provided fun and laugh- ter with two contests. Collection taken 34.56. Meeting closed with the Naticmsl Anthem. The January meeting of the clin- ton Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Wilfred Pickering on Wednesday evening the tenth. In the absence of the President and Vice-President, Mrs. Willard Riley occupied the chair. Meeting opened by the singing of the Ode. followed by replanting the Greed in unison.

Roll call was responded to by seven members repeating a New Year's verse. one visitor was pre- sent. Minutes of previous meeting were read. approved and signed. A bill of 84.00 for a treat for the children of the district at christ- ims and one of 31.50 postage on a parcel to England were on motion paid.

Correspondence was read, which included a letter from Mrs. Mc- Kinnon. social welfare convener. one from Miss Robin re dlscoloring of potatoes when cooking. and Mrs. Malcolm McLeod's report of her trip to Copenhagen was read by Mrs. Douglas. Campbell. a former member. and Mrs. Elmer MacDonald made a. presentation of an envelope of money. after which Mrs. Camp- bell made a reply thanking mem- bers. ”Blest Be The Tie Thai- Blnds", was then sung, closing with C. W. B. M. benediction.

The January meeting of the South Winsloe W. M. S. was held at the home of Mrs. Earl Rodd. Mrs. Archie Auld lead the devot- ional period taking as her theme "Working together With Us". fol- lowing the worship service in the w ' ry Monthly. Hymns 571. 403. 356 were sang with Mrs. Floyd Huston as organist. Prayers were offered by three different members taking part. A reading was given by the Temperance secretary. Mrs. Ivan Turner was in charge of the study Book and told about some of the work being carried on in Japan.

The installation of officers for 1951 was carried out. Hymn. "Take My Life and Let it Be". closed this part. of the programme.

BUNBURY W. M. S.

The January meeting of the Bunhury W.M.s. was held at the home of Mrs. Wendell Mutch on Wednesday afternoon. Jan. 3rd.

Mrs. Tait. the president presided and opened the meeting with pray- er. Program 4 of the study book was dealt with and as the purpose of this program is to acquaint members with the living, working church in Japan, interesting re- ports on various phases of the work of the church in that country were given by Mrs. Tait.

The worship service was led by Mrs. John MacDonald, the theme being. "God-wcrklng together with us". Following the singing of the hymn, "Standing at the Portal", ms. MacDonald read the scripture, after which she and Mrs. Willard Kelly. reading from the "Mission- ary Monthly" brought to members minds some very timely resolutions. such as rededlcating themselves to the work of God in their homes, their occuipatiorns. church and com- munity. Prayer led by Mrs. Weir hrcmht the worship period to a close.

The installation ceremony of new- ly appointed officers for 1951 was very impressively conducted by Mr. Weir who reminded all that prayer was their first and most important duty.

The business period was conduct- ed by the president and the annual report of the different secretaries were given. The recording secretary, Mrs. Willard Kelly gave a very en- couraging account of the year's work. Mrs. William Smaliwood. the treasurer. gave a very gratifying report. The total amount, raised for the year being 5245.00. The Cum- munity Friendship secretary. Mrs. Farquharscn. reported 164 house calls and 17 hospital calls having been made during the past year. The Supply Secretary was absent, but it was reported that three boxes had been packed and sent away during the year, one to Labrador and Newfoundiland. one to Canadian Church Relief abroad and one to the port workers in Halifax.

The president thanked all mem- bers fcr their cooperation during the past year and asked that each should do her best in the coming year. Mrs. Wendell Mutch was ap- pointed as delegate to attend the Presbyterial which would be held at Summerside on Jan 2'Jrd and 24th. It was decided that the Feb- ruary meeting oi the W. M.S. would be held at the home of Mrs. Wil- lard Kelly at which time annual dues would be paid. The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benedic- tion. after which a lovely lunch was served by Mrs. Mutch assisted by several of the ladies.
