A petition was received from about fifty parents ask- ing that the Christmas holidays be extend~ ed. lt was ordered that the schools ciose for the Christmas holidays on Friday, the 23rd inst., ana reopen on Tuasday, Jan. 3rd.

The operators presented a ecbedule in which they asked that they be pleced on the same footing asotheremplovees; that is that they be paed according to the length of time in the service and alvo that the rate of wages be increased.
