The regular monthly meeting of the Charlottetown branch of tttel Canadian Legion B.E.S.L. was heldv in the Clover Club on Thursdayi evening, Sept. 25th, with the Pres- ident Comrade V.J. Bowlan pre- siding. The meeting opened with one verse of 0 Canada followed by one minute's silence in mem- ory of fallen comrades.

The lnutes of the last meeting. which was the June meeting; were read by Comrade Elrlc Campbell and were adopted. The various commltttees gave their reports which were adopted. The financial report and the report of the House Committee brought some discus- sion and some opposition from the floor. but were finally adopted by a majority vote.

An Interesting part of the pro- gram was I talk by Mr. Russell St. John. President of the Prince Edward Island Retarded Children Parent Association. In the course of his remarks, Mr. St John shed sortie light on a subjec which up until recently was little known and litttle thought about by the great majority of citizens.

On Retarded Children's Work

Charlottetown Branch of the Can- adian Legion the public in general, and governments in particular are becoming aware that something can be done-that something must be done for these children. They are children of the Province. They are citizens of Canada and have the same right to whatever meas- ure of education they can imbibe as are all other children of this free country."

After Mr. St. John had finished the audience showed their apprec- iation by loud applause.

The President then spoke briefly and thanked the speaker for a very interesting and informative talk He then introduced Mrs. Corrlgan, President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Charlottetown Branch and Mrs Whlston Smith. the secretary He then called on Mrs. Corrigan who presented a cheque to Mr. St. John to be used in furthering the mark of his association. When Mr. St. John rose to reply he said that words could hardly express his appreciation. He knew that the money given had been hard earned by the women and he assured them it would be expended wisely.

The meeting then closed with "The Queen."

The Autumn meeting of the Wo- mens Auxiliary of the Canadian National Institute of the Blind was held at the Charlottetown Hotel yesterday afternoon. There was a good attendance of the mem- bership with Mrs. S.G. Peppin. the president in the chair.

The main purpose of the meet- lug was to arrange for the annual tag day for the blind. October 10 was selected for this important event.
