Formerly head of Canada's Net- lonal Film Board, Grlerson now supervises the planning, product.- lon and distribution of document- ary films that interpret British social and industrial life to audi- ences at. home amd abroad. Many are being sent to Canada and the United States.

His appointment as controllerof the Films Division last February was criticized by n Conservative member o! the House of Commons who said “his affiliation with the extreme left ls well’ known. pur- tlculsrly on the other side of the Atlantic."

Patrick Gordon-Walker, Parlia- mentary under-secretary for corn- monwenlth relations, replied that Grierson had served under a Lib- eral acbztlnlstratlon in Canada for seven years. and was unquestion- ably "the right. man for the job."

Four films made under Griersonb supervision are to be seen ln Can- ada soon. Three deal vlvldly and imaginatively with work in British shipyards, the Sheffield cutlery ln- dustry and the Midlands potterles. The fourth shows how relations bepween factory managers and workers can be improved.
