Why tile present government has not even taken care of the pave- ment we have to say nothing of building more. The highway be- tween Kensington and Summer- side is a disgrace. Why wasn't it taken care of when a stitch in time saves nine. Surely you won't vote Liberal in the face of this neglect.

"Do you know if it were not for Family Allowances, Pensions and Ununployrrnmt I e, we are not as prosperous as we were 30 years ago. We had no empty farms. in villages. no unemploy- ment then. I certainly approve, of Family Allowances. I wish we had had them when I was rais- ing my seven and I also approve of social benefits, such as Pen- sions and Unemployment Insur- ance. We have to approve of them because with our pmsent government in power we could not get along without them: but I must say I would much prefer constructive prosperity the kind we enjoy as the result of our own initiative and industrial enter- prise. This is what the Progres- sive Conservative Party is trying to introduce.

"I realize we have not enough raw materials for large industries: but if small grants were given to villages so that our canning of meat, fruits. fish and other vege- tables could be encouraged, it would rcll e unemployment and fill up the empty houses in these same villages that have deterior- ated so much in the past ten years.

"But again the Liberal Govern- ment does not even allow trade unions so how can we have indus- trial plants. Iif they have work- ed in Central Canada, isn't it strange they should not be allow- ed here. We cannot encourage in- dustry without them and labour is important to us. We must have more co-operation between the electorate and the Government. They seem to forget that they are our representatives and are re- sponsible to us for their acts and the spending of our money. It is useless for us to go to the pre- sent Government and find fault. They are so vain in their own con- ceit that they feel they are above reproach and that there is no room for improvement.

"Now I have not touched on the condition of our potato industry. I really hate to mention it. Here again we were promised that sub- sidies would take care of falling markets. Is no per bushel enough subsidy? Is it worth grading them for and I hear we are not getting that until August. Do you know I really do not thin): that the powers that be ever intended to get us fair renumeration. Is our Premier interested in pots-

Mr. Bocidar .Banovac. 1-year- old Yugoslavian farm worker. a victim of German cruelty and oppression during world War II, arrived to work at the farm of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Mulch, Earnscliife, P.E.I., last Friday.

Perhaps Mr. Banovac's chief hate is of Communists and Com- muniam. This feeling is born of experience of their methods in the war in Yugoslavia. He saw brother shoot brother then, and saw his own relatives shot.

He fought for the Chetnlcks against Communists in Yugoslavia in wartime gueriila warfare, and against the Germans. I-Ie exper- ienced life in igwcfencentratlon camp where he was atcn when the Germans attempid to extract in-x formation from him. Mr. Banovac says that" at the time of his cap- ture by the Germans his hair was down to his waist like that of most of his compatriots.

Before coming to Canada. Mf- Banovac was residing at Wood- houae' Mill. Wrkshire. England- where he was taking a. rehabilitat- ion course. He was frequently 011' ed upon to lecture on his home- land, and in his talks emphasized the fanaticism and hypocrisy of the Communists.

They report the roads in very good condition. They are welcome visitors to Oyster Bed Bridge and Charlotte- town for the week-end, visiting parents and friends. Mr. Gallant visited with his sister who is- a nurse in training at Faloonwood Hospital.

Nurses Addressed At City Hospital

Geriatrics and Geriatric Nurs- ing was the subject t T in the fourth of a series of programs sponsored by the Committee on Iuu'tutiousi Nursing. The meet- ing, held at the Char' 'temwn Hospital yesterday. was attended by about ftrty-five members of the Nursing Profession including representatives from the private duty group, public health and Red Cross groups.

Sister John Baptist. chairman of the committee, in her introduc- tory remarks, stressed the im- portance of the Nurses realizing their special responsibility to- wards the atudy of Geriatric Nurs- ing pointing out that medical re- search has discovered many ways of saving life. consequently we are living in an age of lengthen- ing life span and will have great- er need for a knowledge of medical, hospital. nursliig and aa- cial care of the aged. She point- ed out too the vast field opened to the nurses for detailed study of Geriatric Nursing and the ne- cessity of overcoming the lack of response to the call of today's Geriatric Problans. Several new books and interesting posters were on display during the meeting.

The first number on the pro- gram was a chant: entitled "A Nurses Prayer" by the Student Nurse! Choir which was thorough- ly endoyed by all present.

Of special interest was a radio dramatization of a typical case history, that of an average aging mother, which we presented by Miss Anna Cameron, Science In- structor, Charlottetown Hospital. of Nursing, stressing the various ways of preventing much unnecessary disability of age.

An interesting discussion on Geriatric Problems, led by Miss Muriel Archifbald, Registrar and Nurse Education Adviser, and participated in by others present. proved of great interest.

At the clou of the meeting rc- freshments were served after which all joined in I. sing-song with Miss Mary Collins, R.N.. at the piano.

Subjects deolth with at previ- ous meetings of the above group were: Nursing Care of Diabetes by Mrs. Lois MacDonald, R. N., Supt. of Nurses Prince Edward Island Hospital and Mia Muriel Archibald, Registrar. also Polio- mylltla (Symptoms. Treatment and Nursing Care), Dr. T. B. Acker and Sr. Mary Irene participating.
