ast Friday night, the UPEI Barn was bumping and grind 1. ing, slamming and mashing to the grind core sounds of

four of the best thrash bands in the Atlantic Region. Two were back by popular demand for a return en- gagement after the 11-Band New Music Fes- tival in Septem- ber. Sons of the Mourning are a PO. Ge wd Charlottetown act, with a large and faithful fol- lowing. They kicked off the evening in grand style. Sons’ lead singer has a gor- geous voice with fantastic power and con- trol, and the beautiful music that he and the rest of the band made together was well appre- ciated by the crowd.

was well attended by students from some local high Schoo} who have attended other Barn concerts with excellent Fesults These people are invariable enthusiastic and well-behaved, an are a pleasure to have at the Barn. (UPEI can lay the claim; the best dancers, though -- way to go, Zac!)

After Sons of the Mourning left the stage, Skinkeeper took ove, These guys area lot of fun, have cool hair (those that have hair and play great music. They too were well received by the crow, which by this time numbered close to 200. They were followe by Tormented and Earth A.D. This was a really fabuloy concert, and I hope there’s a repeat soon.

UPEI THEATRE SOCIETY’S

evening of One Act Plays took place last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. The evening consisted of three one act plays all produced by Stephen Heckbert. These plays were, in order of presentation, Harold Pinter’s ‘‘The Dumbwaiter’’, Sean O’Casey’s ‘‘Bedtime Story’’, andTom Stoppard’s “*The Real Inspector Hound’’.

“*The Dumbwaiter’’, directed by Mary Anne Fitzpatrick, yielded one of the best performances of the evening in one of its two char- acters: Kent Murnaghan did a fairly good job in the role of Gus. Ifhe hadn’t talked to the back wall of the set so much, I may have been able to say he did a great job. Craig Blair was okay, but he seemed like a fairly stagnant char- acter who spent his whole life angry -- but when he was angry, boy, he was angry. The play was fairly well done, but I felt some- what cheated by missing some of the dialogue because it was di- rected to the back of the stage so
