LIVESTOCK

The greatest cattle, horse and swine shows in the his- tory of the Provincial Ex- hibition will be presented this year. Never have so many cattle entries been re- ceived and officials fear there

may be difficulty in finding accommodation for the entire classes. The horse and swine ’ entries are also well above the number of past years. There will be plenty of fun and not a little excitement in the Jones Pavilion where the judging is scheduled to take place. Horses will be judged ou Monday at 10 a. m. Cattle will be judged on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Friday and any unfinished classes judged on Saturday.

Judging takes place as follows: Monday, Horses; Tuesday, Holsteins, Jerseys, Red

Polis, Angus and Hogs; Wednesday, Holsteins, Herefords, Jerseys, Shorthorns and Sheep; Thursday, Ayrshires. Guernseys and Dual Purpose Shorthorns; Friday, same.

Any unfinished Cattle Judging will be finished on Saturday.

Judging each day will start at 9 a.m., excepting Horses, which is 10 a.m. on Monday

and Poultry which is 10 a.m. on Tuesday. It is expected large crowds wil] flock to the judging rings and show circle where the tream of Maritime livestock goes on parade. i

Once again we take pride in the fact that our encouragement coupled with that of the Dominion and @rovincial Governments, has brought our standard of quality so high that we are known throughout the length and breath of the American continent among the best producers of special types of horses, cattle, sheep, swine and poultry.

We want every one to take an interest and lend encouragement to this important side of our Old Home Week Pro- gram. Our exhibitors are in no small way contributing to the prosperity of the Garden of the Gulf.

We invite and urge the pub- lic to visit the numerous Live- stock barns which will be crowded to capacity with livestock valued at many hundreds of thousands of dollars.

| POULTRY

The Exhibition recognizes the growing interest in and importance of the Poultry Industry. Again this year, the exhibits promise to be out- standing and should be viewed by crowds of poultry enthusiasts. The best of the live ones will be on display in the special Poultry Building. Interest in this aspect of the Fair extends from one end of the Province to the other, small expense. :

BILL LYNCH’S MIDWAY

The Midway has been a popular part of the Exhibition and Old

Home Week down through the years. It is a mecca for the younger fry and a source of great entertainment for older folk. Bill Lynch and his retinue of entertainers need no introduction to Island audiences. They are part and parcel of the Big Fair and always welcome. Coming by special trip of the Car Ferry — the greatest collection of feature shows ever offered in the Maritimes — Specialists from leading circuses — Latest rides and old favourites should provide a barrel of fun for everyone.

the Exhibition. EATS IN PLENTY

Delicious Hamburgers, Wieners, Sandwiches, Pies, Cakes, Tea and Coffee — available in booths and Horse Shoe Bar. Meals will be served in the Main Restaurant.

z WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

One of the most popular Show Buildings on the Grounds is that run by the Women’s Institutes. Be sure and include this outstanding show place in your visit to the Exhibition. There will be hundreds of exhibits, an indication of. the steady mounting interest in this part of the “Old Home Week” program. Exhibits will include handicraft and home-cook- ing and preserving, etc, In addition there will be a display of flowers in attractively arranged booths.

The Official Opening of the 1959 Provincial Exhibition and Old Home Week will take place in the Jones Livestock Arena at 7 p.m. Tues- day evening. This year the show will be opened by Hon. Douglas Hark- ness, Minister of Agriculture, others present will be His Hon. Lt.-Gov. Walter Hyndman, Premier Matheson, Hon. Eugene Cullen, Minister of Agriculture and His Worship Edwin C. ADMISSION TO GROUNDS

The Vaudeville programme will again be staged in the Jones Live- stock Pavilion (Colosseum). The admission of 25¢ will give.patrons access to the main grounds including the Vaudeville Show, the cattle, horses, swine, sheep and poultry exhibits, the Women’s Institute Display and the Bill Lynch Midway. There will also be numerous industrial, mercantile and agricultural display booths. The main building will be opened to pat- rons at al] times.

ADMISSION TO RACE TRACK

The admission to the race track will be $1.00 per performance for

adults and 50c for children. It is proposed to have six night racing cards and at least three afternoon cards.

HARNESS HORSE RACING

For thrills, competition, entertainment and crowds there are few athletic events in the Dominion to equal the Old Home Week harness rac- ing program. Islanders and racing fans from across the continent join to- gether during the week to make Charlottetown the mecca of the harness racing sport-

This year’s program bids well to be the largest and most competitive ever staged here. The leading horses in the Maritimes and-mahy from out- side these seaside provinces will be racing over a lightning fast track which has produced some of the fastest miles in the Maritimes this year.

_ “This entire performance is entertaining and hilarious from. start to finish and well deserves its reputation as one of the finest animal at- tractions in show business today. These incredible performers play ball, actually juggle fire torches and prove an amazing sense of balance.

ADAMS CHIMPS

Adults and children alike will be amused and amazed at the antics of these “JUNGLE COMEDIANS”. These chimps perform daring acro- batics, play games, and even ride a motorcycle. ek .

LADD LYON

This act opens with a normal skilled series of acrobatic maneuvers by Ladd Lyon. Very soon, however, Lyon calls for an audience volunteer for a lesson in acrobatics. This is one of the most exciting acts on this year’s program. _ ‘

TWO LINARES

Beauty, talent and thrills embodied in the grace of this act make it a sure fire audience pleaser. From ballet to somersaults this act is ac- complished in every phase of wire walking.

Musie as you like it with many novel interludes fnserted for a change of pace. From modern to classical each in good taste and excel- lently presented. We are sure that this number will keep your toes-a- tapping.
