By referring to the statement of Expenditure and Receipts for the past year. it will be found that the Expenditure has been £21,308 8 104 (which amount includes £4112 10 0 paid on ac- count Of Contracts for the erection of the Colonial Building, £840 10 2;, applied towards the purchase Of forty-eight shares in the P. E.Island Steam Navigation Company, and £1039 1 6 paid as Interest on Treasury Warrants) and the Receipts at the Treasury £13,875 19 5.}, (Including-£235 8 421 received on ac- count Of Interest due on Bonds,) thereby exhibiting a Balance against the Colony for that time of £7432 9 5.

It appears by the abstract of the financial state Oftbe Colony. that there are Warrants afloat and bearing interest to the amount of £21,277 133 44d. Treasury Notes In circulation. £11,500, and, tO go against which, there are Bonds in the Treasurer’s and Attorney General’s hands tO thetamount oi £8659195.5§vl, and Cash and Notes in the Treasury amounting tO £4678 12s. 14d, leaving a balance against the Colony of £7949 ls. 94d, (£3428 Os. 250. Of this amount being invested in the Prince Edward Island Steam Navigation Company) over and above the amount of Treasury Notes in circulation. *

1. Resolved, That your Committee cannot but express their disapprobation ofthe enormous charges made for the convey— ance of the Civil and Military expedition, to King’s County generally, and are of Opinion that the Accounts should have been reduced, as recommended by the Committee of the Execu- tive Council, to whom they were referred.

2. Besohed. That the charge for surveying, made by the Surveyor General, being 165. 8d. per day, is greater than is al- lowed by Law, and is beyond what was charged, by the Survey- or General, in the years 1837 and 1838, when the Fees of Sur- veyors. under the Act 01 7th William 4th, cap. 11, were estab» lished at 12S. 6d per day.’

A motion being made, that the Report of the Committee be agreed to, Mr. Cooper moved the following amendment :—

Resolved, That with regard to the information laid before this House, by his Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, as the grounds for sending the Military and Special Constables into King’s County, it does not appear that the Sheriff, John Macgow- an, Esq, had been at any time interrupted in his duty as Sheriff.
