THE CASE OF THE CITY TEACHERS.
Tne various methods reserted to by the Peters Administration for the purpose raising money to meet their extraordinary corrnpt expenditures of last year, as well

and as to carry on the work of the Govern-
ment, have operated with palpable unfair
ness in respect to all sorts and ¢ onditions - - aI of men and women. But most of all, they
have operated te the disadvantage of the te.chers of this city. These teachers were not only compelled to pay taxes upon their incomes,—there was subtracted from their salaries the sums set opposite their
names, as f llows :

is, we believe, little hope that the influen x
of Mesers. Rogers and Prowse will be suf- |
ficient to move the Premier and his col-
leagues'to right the wrong that has been
done. If, then, the people of Charilotte- |
town desire to maintain the high characte:
of their schools, they must put their hands
down into their pockets—already relieved
of the amounts of the income tax—anid themselves make good the teachers’ salar- ies. This is a matter for our City School Board to serious!y consider. It was truly
emarked to-day by the Rev. Mr. Campbell, |
in the course of his allress at Upper
Prince Street School, that the teachers of | the Maritime Provinces are harder worked
than other classes for the money they get;
and we feel sure that the Reverend gentle- man represents the voice of the people of Charlottetown when he expressed the hope |
that the position of the teachers of Char
lot etown will be improved by additions to |
their salaries.
