Petrtionixe.—The people of Souris and vicinity are petitioning the Minister of Public Works for a grant of money for the building of a post office, customs house and savings bank combioed. The petition is numerously signed, and it is sincerely hoped the money will be granted the present session. A town of such growing importance as Souris is en- titled to most favorable treatment at the

reports that Frank Elenschel,of St. Louis,a clerk, shot and probably fatally wounded bis sweetheart, Alice Bruce,at her home on Wednesday. A little later the police, look- ing for the would-be marderer, found his dead body in an alley two blocks west of the scene of bis first bloody work. Hens- che! was about 25 years old, and so far as known, had no cause for a quarrel with Miss Bruce. Friends, however, knowing him to be a slave to the cigarette habit, are of the opinion that he committed the crime while crazed by the effects of ciysrette smoking TWO PRETTY WINDOWS.
