Snow and Ice on Railway Track«,
At the recent Scandinavian Railway Congress, held at Copenhagen, a num- ter of plans were adopted to prevent the accumulation of snow and ice on rcilway tracks. The work of freeing the tracks of snow is especially diffi- cult in these countries. It has been found that by putting salt on the ground about the tracks in large quan- tities frost has been prevented for a period of nine years. It was stated that during last winter 33,688 rails in more than 2000 different mlaces on a single railway were lifted by the frost s2 as to endanger the trains. Ice was removed by the use of dynamite. Every Iccomotive on the line has been equip- ped with a snow plow, which will be <rried throughout the winter.

Archaeological Nesearch.
The excavations which are carryinz out near Athens by the Greek Archae- clogical Society have recently yielded some exceedingly important results. In one well-preserved tomb the workmen rvcently came across the skeleton of a weman with a great assortment of jew- eiry, together with Egyptian scarabae! and a porcelain statue of the goddess Isis. The relics, it is believed, prove that many important religious rites of the Greek have been borrowe] from the Kigyptians, which hes for years been a digputed point.
