Contract Let For Dredging

A contract for $125,320 has been awarded by the Department of Public Works to the J. P. Porter Company Limited of Montreal, for dredging at Wood Islands, P. E.1., it was announced by Hon. J. Angus MacLean, minister of Fisheries, and H.N. Macquarrie, M.P. for Queens.

The dredging will take place in an area on the west side of the harbor basin, between the new ferry terminal and the narth- erly end of the west breakwater, approximately 1,300 feet long by an average width of 143 feet. This dredging is to bring’ the widened ferry basin to the 15-foot depth required to operate a new ferry. The Northumberland Ferries Ltd., who maintain the ferry service, require the work for the safe pas- sage of their boat, which operat- es between Caribou, N. S. and Wood Islands, P.E.I.

Plans and specifications were prepared by the District En- gineer’s Office at Charlottetown.

Pole Broken In Accident

ALBERTON — A highway accl- dent on the Western Road near St. Anthony’s Church Friday afternoon resulted in a power. in- tion in parts of Western Prince County Saturday morning while a power pole was being replaced on the main transmission line.

A truck operated by Henry Arsenault of Summerside was re- ported to have sideSwiped the pole following a niinor collision with a car operated by Frank Gallant of Howlan. No one was im jured in the accident and neither vehicle received serious damage.
