speeches that he would ** support Sir John Macdonald, right or wrong.” The Captain, with more reason for his faith, is less faithful than the leading Grits of this Island. They will follow Mr Blake, knowing him to be wrong -knowing him to be personally opposed te the best in- terests of this Province. ee

Frestive.—The Drill Shed, to morrow even- ing, will be beautifully decorated with flags and bunting, the grounds adjoining, the use of which Governor Haviland has kindly per- mitted, will be brightly illuminated in the evening. The Band of the 82nd Battalion wi'l play a selection of airs; and as there will be strawberries and cream, ices, etc., in abundance, and plenty of room for all, a pleas- ant time can be expected.

The ‘‘ Emerald Mills” are highly spoken of, and excellent and plentiful work is being put out. The roads are improving under the work of statute laborers, and a substantial bridge is to be erected on the Mill Road. by Duffy Brothers Mr. Bairnsfather has been making friends, acd impartieg interesting instruction to the inhabitants in the vicinity.

We regret to learn that the injuries re ceived by Mrs. J. F. Robertson, in the railway accident yesterday morning, are very serious. and it will necessarily be some time before she recovers. Mr. Robertson is better to-day, though his breast bone was severely fractured. The Sisters of the Congregation de Notre Dame. whose injuries are very slight, are in the best of spirits. They will leave for Montreal in the course of two or three days. Mrs. Walker's injuries, though very painful, sre not serious. With the ex- ception of Mrs. Robertson, we may say they all are doing wel!

SMALL quantities of new potatoes are being exhibited at the market to-day. Some are remarkably fine, while other« would be better in the ground. The Pariot says:—-“‘J. D. Mason, Keq., »as brought as the first early potatees ot the season. They are ot three vatities, the Triumph, the Beauty of Hebron, aud the Early White. The specimens of the first two varieties are quite large, but the last is rather diminutive as yet. It is, Mr. Mason informs us, just two months since these pota- toes were planted. It is not a usual thing, even in the moat propitious seasons to have new potatoes fit to eat on the 17th July.
