I was a child of divorce. raised in a series of orphanages and foster homes. Once, while drink- ing heavily. I tried suicide and almost succeeded. It had been busy at Altlcrlca. And then all at once quiet. liven the smokes from the chimneys seemed to take on a leisurely quality as they rose to mingle with the blue above. Because in a twist of circumstance somewhat rare of late at this place, James too was missing, he having joined Rob and a farmer from down the River Road in In excursion which took them to I dispersal sale on a farm some distance away.

It had been no easy decision for James to make. in the pro- .spect of the younger farmer's labsence too. However the sun cal- led and the gentle breeze. Jellteil Apricots: Put 1 lb. ten. derixed dried apricots into 1 qt, refrigerator dish: cover with boll- lng water. let stand 14 hours.

Drain off liquid. Add enough hot water to make 156 c. and us. in making up 1 vkii. prepared lemon gelatin according to pack. age directlona.

Pour gelatin over apricots. Re. frtgernte 4 hours or until firm.

Unmold and Illce.

Marble Cake Squares: hleasuj-9 '25 c. butter or shortening into . bowl; let stand until softened. Blend in 1 c. sugar. 112 tsp. van. ill: and 3 well-beaten eggs.

Sift together W; e. already-gm. ed enriched flour, Vi tsp. salt and W: tsp. baking powder. Add al. ternately to first mixture with is c. milk.

Spoon out half the mixture; add ':5 tsp. each ground cinnamon clove, and ground nutmeg.

Oil and flour an 3'' x 8" cat; pan. Spread in a layer of plain cake better; then one of spleen batter. Continue until all is usoti
