Chris Elliot, famous Mari- time comedian graced Prince Edward Island again on Friday.
Elliot is famous on P.E.l. for his summer-long per- formances at the former Hilton.
The Montreal native has lived in the Maritimes for many years, ten of which he spent in Newfoundland.
The tousle-haired come- dian is also multi-talented, with skills in music, drama, and writing.
However, he adopted comedy because of his natural inclinations, and because “audiences threw things at me when'l played serious songs.”

“Into the Night” just tooweird

“Into the Night”, a comedy thriller directed by John! Ladis, opened at theatres last Friday. It stars Jeff Goldblum as Ed Orkin, a run-of—the- mill insomic-stricken guy who realizes the tedium of his life.
He is further frustrated when he discovers his wife is having an extra—marital affair.
On a friend’s advice Ed goes to the Los Angeles air— port to fly off to Los Vegas and indulge in the sins of the flesh.
Before he can do this, Diana (as in Lady Di), the character played by Michelle Pfeiffer, falls into his life, or
IS the audience.
Sometimes material will turn off an audience, but this is the risk one must be willing to take, he says.
FurthermOre, Chris finds that he must analyze jokes for their impact.
In his opinion, “Comedy is a way of making fun of your own sexuality, as Mick Jagger does. But when you declare yourself a ‘stud’, you end. up tripping over a bucket.”
Further plans for Chris, include hitting the New York City comedy market. This entails auditioning for Satur— day Night Live and the David Letterman Show.
I wish Chris good luck in his future endeavours, and hope he will return to Prince Edward Island soon.

It seems Diana is an emerald smuggler on the run from a wide assortment of bloddthirsty Iranian, French, and English henchmen.
Poor Ed will never be the V same, and neither will the viewers of this m0vie.
The ensuing chase takes on a rushing dreamlike quality filled with extreme violence and gore. These elements and comedy make for strange entertainment.
The viewer can identify with Golblum’s watery stare, and wonders when and where this dream (or nightmare) will end.

He stood at the door of the crypt. The stale air diffusing from within filled his nostrils with alarm. As he stepped in, he sensed an infinitely deli— cate film envelop him. The door closed behind him.
Twelve stone coffins, arranged in two rows of six, dominated the crypt. He began to read the names carved at the foot of each

coffin. He paused at the third coffin to his right. Yes! This was the one!
His hands trembling, he slowly slid off the marble lid of that coffin. A foul mist spewed from within and spilled over the floor. He waited for the mist to cease its flow. It seems to flow for an eternity. But at last, it stopped.

Despite his efforts to leave Diana, Ed returns to rescue her a number of times. Then at the end of the movie, he picks the most inappropriate time to overcome his insom- nia. * '
And what about Diana. She seems more trouble than she is worth. Is this streetWise punk who is responsible for all these problems, not to mention deaths, supposed to evoke pathos?
This is a girl who uses people like Kleenex.
Although the movie outdid itself in the use of violence and created a lot of questions
he peered within —~ and froze solidly.
“Dear God!” “She has fled!”
True enough, the coffin was very empty.
Sinking slowly to the floor, he began to weep.

If this is not enough , the viewer can try to spot the directors and ‘stars who appear in the scenes of this show.. Featured in cameos are: John Landis, Paul Mazursky, David Cronen- burg, Lawrence Kasdan, Roger Vadim, Jim Henson,
like who wins the dagger fight and what becomes of the washed-up friend, it was in- teresting.
Some of its high points include ‘a ride With your average cabdriver, an Elvis impersonater, and Ed’s inter- rogation by the Iranian god-

If you don’t mind a little blood and feel like a crazy adventure, you can go “Into v the Night” but, like Ed, this found this chain of events a little too weird for me too.
