Death of Felix Walker, Esq., M. D.

‘he many friends of Dr. Felix Walker will learn with deep regret of his rather sudden death, which happened yesterday morning, at his place of residence, Cardi- van Bridge. Dr. Walker, who had been very much occupied of late with profes- sional work, and as a consequence almost day and night on the road, contracted, some lew days ago, & severe cold, which,

Dr. Walker, pastor of Rollo Bay parish and & nephew of the late Hon. Patrick Walker. Some three or four years ago he graduated With the highest honors at McGill Univer- sity, Montreal, received the degree of M. D., and returning to the Island estab- lished himself at Cardigan Bridge, where he was in the enjoyment of a good practice. Dr. Walker, although young in his profes- sion, stood high as a medical practitioner. He was eminent ly successful in the treat meni difficult cases, his opinion and de 1S610ns bein alway: re spected and upheld by the Medical Faculty. The grief which the announcement of his death caused the people amongst whom he lived and worked Wasa sufiicient indication of the place he eecupied in their esteem and affection. In Dr. Walker's death King’s County has lost & most estimable and promising citizen.

The Grits held a meeting in a small room in the basement. The interest became so dull from listening to Mr. Warburton’s confused and mixed array of figures, and a series of readings by Mr. Harris, from a wonderful serap book, that the whole thing fizzled. The Grits became disgusted with the exponents of their policy, and many of them joined the Conservative meeting, de- termined to vote on election day for the cause of law and order.

A large meeting was held at Bear River last evening. Jas. Keefe, Esq,. occupied the chair. The administration of Sir John A. Macdonald's Government was defended in an able speech by John McLean, Esq., M. P. P. The Liberal Conservatives will take three votes to the one they got in 1882 at this polling place.

The nomimations yesterday in some places were very exciting. Only one Grit,

Mr. Scriver, of Huntingdon, was elected by acclamation.

Five Government supporters were re- turned tnoppesed, viz.: Dupont, Bagot; Coursol, Montreal East ; Meara, Yale, B. C.; Ross, Lisgar; and Gigaylt, Rov- ville.

The Grits have also abandoned King’s and Gloucester, N. B., and Centre Toronto, one seat in Pictou, where only Conserva- tives are runuing, and the Grits are running a disqualified candidate in Prince Edward Island.

The Government thus starts with a gain of eleven seats.

In many other counties, such as Fronte- nac. Sherbrooke, Carleton, North Hastings, South Simcoe and Ottawa County dummy Grit candidates were placed in the field at the last moment, in order to save Mr. Blake fromthe additional humiliation of absolutely abandoning these seats to the Government. The wave of race and revenge, and pre- judice, is subsiding in Quebec, and the Government will have at least fifteen of a majority there.

In Cntaris the prospects are most cheer- ful: The Grits are only running one candidate for three Toronto seats, and the Conservatives are confident of redeeming North York, Exst York, East Sincoe, North Ontario, South Ontario, Peel, West Dur- ham. Bothwell, Bast Bruce, South Huron and Kingston, while West Lake Superior will return solid (Government delegation.

In New Brunswick,MeCready has thrown up the sponge, and leaves Minister Foster to whip Domville for the fourth time in four years.

Iu Gloucester the Grit candidates have retired. This has sadly demoralized the Grits.

In Digby, Shelburne, Baddeck and Dor- chester, the Grits have substituted ruffian- ism for argument, without convincing the electors of the righteousness of their cause.

In Queen’s, Mack, the Grit candidate, made a brutal attack upon Lady Macdonald. He charged her with selling her honor and with wearing the price of her shame around her neck. This is not the first time the (irits have assailed Lady Macdonald, and Mack's ruffianism has disgusted even his own friends,
