There is no official tab- ulation available for the 1970-71 school year, but there were, last year, a surprisingly high number of suicides and suicide attempts on Canadian University campuses. One university alone in the per- iod of one Week had four suicide

attempts, two of which Were quite

successful. Another had a double suicide.

It is dangerous to generalize about such a phenomenon. But the "do not fold, staple or mutilate" impersanality of universities and large. factory high schools is a significant factor. Lost is the sense of community, or belonging. Lost can be the feeling that one is a person and that he or she 9 counts for Something.

You have the obligation of working towards the building of conmunmity wherever you are. Row? by your concern for the needs of others, the sharing of your time with others, your interest in others. Remember that you are never so self-sufficent that you have no room in your life for anyone else. So let's all get together and make the5e years the best years. PIICE!

The club is open to all members of the University. The purpose of the club is to offer these members the chance to participate in’a student activity in order to learn about and drive any motor vehicle they wish t9 use.

The first function of the Motor Sport Club is going to

occur this Saturday, October 30, 1971. This event is called the

HALLOWEEN SCAVENGER RALLY It is open to all members of the University and all other people

throughout P.E.I. who are sponsored by a member of the

University.

The essential equipment required in this event is, of course, a car, driver and navigator. The cost of entry into

y will be $2.50. The event itself will consist of

100 miles Of road driving (all paved) in P.E.I° The al tasks are to maintain an average speed (if possible), the necessary information ie. number of a certain fire and to arrive back at the University.

EAs this rally is not a speed event there will be a maximum and .minimum time limit which will not allow the driver to exceed 3the speed limit posted on the various roads. If the driver does :not arrive at a checkpoint at the proper time there will be :points deducted from his or her total score and this could :probably mean losing the rally.

All in all the rally should be a fun event which will give newcomers an idea of how, why and where events will be run on the Island.

Application forms are available at the top of the stairs in the "Barn".

RegiStration for the rally will take place at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 30 at the U.P.E.I. Student Parking Lot. The first car will be away at 11:00 AM.
